Eclipse AVN5500 GPS Antenna placement
Whats goin on ppl. Im just writing to see where you guys placed your GPS antennas and how you wired it without showing the wire all over the place.
Also, where are the reverse, and speed wires located? Im aware of having to splice the, but I dont even know where theyre located.
Thanks in advance!

I placed it right next to the inspection sticker near the front winshield and I wired under and around the passenger side. You can see some wiring but less than a foot of it and it goes along the edge so it looks really clean, to me atleast.
Pretty hard to picture, but use your imagination.

For right now I mounted mine above the front middle vents. I ran the wire around the vents and out the top so its dead center of my dash. Looks a little weird, but dead center and close the unit for better gps signal ????
Confusing part is my avn5435 manual said to install the gps antenna withing 19" of the unit to get the best signal, then the next page said for best signal to mount it outside the vehicle...I dont want it outside tho for sure.
I may wire it under the dash and up by the front of the windshield tho.
Do you HAVE to use that grounding pad? its pretty big vs the antenna...

I mounted my GPS antenna IN the center Vents right above the HU. It sees all the satellites and has no tracking issues. A small amount of plastic/glass is okay to go through too. any more and it will have issues.
Yes you have to use the grounding pad. If not, the antenna will not track correctly and you will get telemetry errors. I know because while I had the vents off one time, I sat the antenna out on the dash and even after 20 minutes, it never found a satellite.
