Well I hate to do it but car audio is my job. I havnt heard any of the eD stuff so thats why I am asking you guys. My car was planned to get JL audio ZR components, TR's in the back and two 12 inch w3v2 subs in the back. Amps are gonna be 300/4 and a 500/1.
QUESTION.... would this eD stuff compare? Im talking about every level of sound not just "how loud does it get"... i hate that question. Just looking for something different out there. Tell me what you guys have in your cars and how you like it compared to other stuff.

I haven't heard any of them. That being said I believe the ZR components are probably better than eDs but you might find a better sub from eD for a similar price. Unless you're looking at w6s or w7s (which eD doesn't really have anything comparable to). eD amps have also been used in some really high end installs w/ DLS speakers so I'd skip JL amps if I were you. They're over priced and lack the features you can find on cheaper eD amps. Check out the Nine.5 that thing looks sick.
If you're lucky our resident SQ champion (rocketgyrl) will chime in. She know's her ____.

I've only tried out eD's Nine.1 amp and a pair of 9kv.2 subs and they performed as great as eD advertised. The first thing that comes to mind when comparing the two companies' products is the price. eD's stuff is waaaaaaay cheaper.

Well I have a shop that sells the JL stuff so I get it at cost. Just want something unique and nice sound. Sure I could go Focal, Boston Acoustic and so on, but I would like to get either JL or eD.
If you want unique, check this guy out:

Its still in pre-production but promises to be a great speaker

i've heard it and its amazing. im gonna run two of those with 2 nine.5's woot
but no its hard to compare a multi million dollar company to a company based in iowa. eD is great stuff though. I know all of the guys there personally and they will take care of you more than your local shop. even if you work there haha.
to rival a w3 i'd go with the 13ov.2. you'll get a little more output and still have a nice crisp sound.
the 13av.2 isn't a w7 killer its a totally different beast. much more sq oriented. but man that thing is nuts. one of those in a ported box sounds incredible.

honestly at this point in time i'd wait on their components and coax's. they have a new component set coming out called the 6800's that will be amazing (they had a prototype in their xb with the 13a) if you don't feel like waiting go for DLS (another brand they carry) they are barely used in the scion scene.
also if ur looking for unique check out Rainbow Audio. They make some top notch stuff for decent prices. I bought some SLC 265s over the JL's you're looking at and they sound great. I'll be upgrading to 3-ways come this weekend.
check it out this is what i had in my tc before two sets of 6.5 components polk audio momo and 3 10s kicker comp vr in the back and for amps i had a 1600 hifonics brutus amp1.1600 and a mtx 4 ch. this is all you need oh yeah if you face the speakers foward it makes it sound way harder that if there facing back. i had to take my subs out cause it was just to much for my car. the sunroof would pop open sometimes.

lol ya no sound competitions for me... been there done that. Hifonics are pretty crazy amps. But I have had alpine, sony, pioneer systems all in previous vehicles. Time to do one last one. I have heard about rainbow audio before, but I have a pet peave of keeping everything the same when it comes to amps and speakers... dont know why.
For "audiophile" companies that offer amps, speakers, subs:
Audison / Hertz - http://www.elettromedia.it/
Arc Audio - www.arcaudio.com
Brax - http://www.audiotec-fischer.com/
Critical Mass - www.criticalmassaudio.com
DLS - www.dls.se
Genesis - www.theautophile.com
McIntosh - www.mcintoshlabs.com
Phass- http://www.phass.com/
Zapco - www.zapco.com
Matt and I have used all the above at one point or another, and will be happy to help with "mini reviews" or where to hear the equipment locally. Remember that to make the most of your investment, the install needs to be top-shelf as well. Plan on a ton of sound damping and deadening, using proper speaker locations (kick-panels), etc.
Tuning the equipment once installed is an art, and I suggest some sort of DSP that has time alignment, eq, and crossover built in.
I've found that most audiophile brands make only one product, be it amplifiers, OR speakers, etc. Should you want suggestions, I'll be happy to provide more information.
We recently got a chance to hear Mark Eldrige's NASCAR (full JL Audio system - C5s & 12W6v2), and feel it's on part with any system using "audiophile" equipment out there. My point is that a mainstream brand is capable of sounding excellent. If it were me, and I was trying to maximize my performance for dollar value, I'd go with JL for numerous reasons - they're readily accessible, have great customer support, innovative products that most importantly SOUND GOOD. Most of the above are more boutique brands that are a bit harder to find, and while they have the potential to sound excellent, will warrant a higher price tag...
Cheers,
Robyn

For the rear, if you wanted fill, eDi 6000s, if not, nothing. Personally I go with nothing since I don't have a 5.1 system in my car

In the back, if you've got your heart set on a pair of 12's, I'd say 13Kv.2's on a Nine.1 at 2 ohms should do you good and have a bit more output than what you're currently looking at.
If you did really want to go with front + rear fill + a sub stage, I'd say get a Nine.5, 100x4 + 600x1 on the sub stage.
All the speakers + amp would run $914.75(eDi 6800s are currently on pre-production for an intro price of $215/set).
Let me know if you had any other questions about our products.
