elemental designs?
i will probably be bashed for this question but i have searched and i just don't understand any of the lingo for what is being said about sound systems..i am looking for a system that isn't to loud and won't fill my back hatch. i don't need it to be extremely loud just louder than our stock. would one 10" sub work if i bought all new speakers also? and which sub and amplifier would you reccomend to buy from ED. any thoughts would help..thanks
If you're not looking to be completely earth-shattering, two SQ10s and a Nine2.x would be excellent. Or a Nine.4 bridged, when they're not backordered.
Unless using a mono block amp and some wiring know-how, generally every speaker takes up one channel on an amp. The Nine.4 has four. However, you can "bridge" the channels together to make two channels with more power. Each SQ10 can use each channel. A Nine.2x provides similar, if not more, power without bridging. A Nine.2x would be the best choice for two SQ10s.
In my opinion, 300 is not enough for a good-sounding setup, sorry. I'm still paying off my door speakers, which, after wiring and all the other necessary trinkets came to a little over $1000. However, I have very rich tastes.
And a sub set-up will cost significantly less. Actually, part of that $1k is so I can simply attach the power wire for my future sub setup and go. Ok, i'm going to shut up and stop editing now.

200-300 for just the sub and amp? yea thats do able.
can you build a box or do you have to buy one?
what about a headunit (if you're keeping your stock headunit you need a LOC or something so you can hook up the amp) and what about replacing the front speakers?
is space saving a priority?

you need to push that amount up to atleast 500. you first need a sub, then a box for that sub. then to power you obviously need an amp, then you need an amp kit to wire everything up. also you may need some rca's because most amp kits do not come with them. another thing is, who is installing? you or a garage? you can get a good 10' sub for aroun 125-150. a good box built to specs may run around 80-100 depending on if you go ported or sealed. a good amp usually will cost more than your sub so expect around 200 if not more, then wires you can get some monster cables for around 60 bucks...then if you need install...no more that 70 for insatll...my garage only charges 55 install for the amp...sub included. hope that helps.
I just bought my system from eD today and ordered an sq10, box, amp, front components and the door baffles for them for just over $500 which I think is a helluva deal. You should give them a call and they can walk you through everything you would need.
Yo.
I am trying to spend a little on a really good hard hitting but not really hard hitting system. Catch my drift?
I already have a sub and amp. I have a 8" kicker, which hammers, and a rockford fosgate amp. I have stock headunit.
I wanna keep the headunit, but I want to replace the speakers.
Whats the perferable good speaker thats kinda cheap do they have?
I am gonna amp them to my amp, she can handle it.
So I want good speakers that can handle high wattage good and are actually good. Or ideas for a system.
Where do you get those basic crossovers at? I want to hook up maybe eu-700 in the side panels hooked up to a crossover and a tweeter and run it to the amp. I am thinking that for all four speakers. Idk...
Ideas please!

Oh, well even then. I bought a brand new Punch 200.2 amp for $170, which is somewhere over 400 watts max, an SQ10 for $55, that leave a little under $100 for wiring and a box. Absolutely doable. Especially if you build the box.
$300 will be a stretch, but personally, I love the challenge of budget systems that still use quality parts.
(oops, posted too soon)
First off: wiring. It's essential, so check out KnuKonceptz for a wiring kit and one additional fuse. I would reccommend at least a 4 gauge kit, since you may want to upgrade later. The actual gauge should be matched to the amperage rating on your amp though (number of fuses x fuse rating (i.e. 30 amp fuse) = amount of amperage the amplifier is pulling). Check out www.the12volt.com for more detailed info on this.
Another important tip: Fuse the wire less than 18" from the battery, and again less than 18" from the amp (providing it does not pass through any metal after that fuse).
Second: Headunit. If you want to keep the factory one, then get a Line-out-converter or search for the LOC harness someone sells on here. This converts the rear speaker signal into an RCA input for the Amp. The downside to this is that now "sub control" is now your rear channel on your HU (I've always prefered to have a seperate sub control).
Keeping the factory HU means saving money though, as I would budget at least $200 for a HU (Pioneer Premier's are good HU's for around $200 on eBay).
Third: Sub Box. Best bet for the box is to go to Homedepot/Lowes and look for their scrap wood bin/cart (usually around the saws, called cull lumber). This stuff usually runs $0.51 - $4.01 for a piece, and is much cheaper than the sheets. It's usually cut from someone elses sheet, but with a $3 box of drywall screws and some $2 wood glue, you can easily build a box for under $20. Make friends with an employee and have them look out for MDF being sold cheap.
If you've done your homework, steps 1-3 should have cost you less than $100.
Forth: Sub(s). I'd suggest one decent sub over two crappy ones. If you build the box right, one sub is all you'll need. If you want to go ED, their K-series are around $100 for a sub. Alpine type R's are about the same price on eBay. You can also find some Rockford Fosgate, Diamond, JL, and Boston Acostic subs there as well.
Finally: Amp: It's going to be a little tougher to find an amp for around $100 (shipped). However, I did a quick search on eBay and found some Infinity (reference), Kicker, MTX, Blaupunkt, Pioneer, and Clarion Amps for around $100. Obviously, you'll need to match the wattage of the amp to the sub.

Yes, Chris is a super guy and is willing to help out anyone... make sure he knows you're from ScionLife cause you'll get a discount for that...
I'd say 1 SQ10 + Scion tC SQ10 box + NIne.4 (or Nine.2) would be the perfect setup for you... would run around $400-$450sih if you can install yourself or have a buddy help you..
