Engine Noise (isolators?)
I did a quick search, but didn't find anything.
I just installed a 4-channel amp and 4 new speakers (specs in my profile).
When I accelerate, I get a lot of engine noise coming through the speakers (with or without the HU on). I went to an audio place about it and they had me put in a ground loop isolator. Granted, they only put the isolators on for 2 of the 4 speakers, I am still getting some interference. Do other people have this problem? I might try putting another ground loop isolator on the other 2 speakers, but the only other fix that I know of is to put in better RCAs or DEAL WITH IT! Anybody have any tidbits of wisdom that they could share with me? Thanks!

the user knukonceptz has some good advise. try searching a little more over on that site and your answer will pop up. That problem is quite common.

Yep, they are talking about the issue on that page, but there is no result on there. The guy still has his problem. Anyway, I am looking for a fix more dedicated to the tC. The only option that I really got out of reading those 3 pages is to put the battery in the trunk!
Anyone else have a possible fix to the interference? I know a lot of you guys have audio system upgrades and i'm told that this is pretty common, so what have you all done to remedy it?

i'll tell you how my setup runs, since it has no noise(engine noise at least) my amp is under the carpet in the back, under that removable piece, it is grounded(with 2 fans on top of it) straight to what i believe is the reat strut( there were 2 18-19mm bolts, i undid the closest and grounded there, barely fit. my power wire runs down drivers side underneath the car along the frame rail, up in the rear hatck area. My RCA's run from a signal converter that is located in the passenger rear door(took 1 channel, split it into 4 there)and they end up back in the hatch under the carpet
everything is hidden, and i used 8 guage wire for a 400Watt amp. check your ground, try to make it under 1 fott if possible, and check your RCAS, should be no power wires near them
other wise, i dont know what to tell ya
hope that helps

That is a nice writeup and thank you for it. Unfortunately, i've done everything that you listed there. I checked the ground numerous times (grounded on the strut). My RCAs and power wires are as far away as possible and running on opposite sides of the car. I have the ground loop isolators on there. I took it to circuit city today (I was going to pay them to fix it), but they said they think it is just that I don't have a good amp.
After all, the sound is still there when the radio/amp is off. That is the part that puzzles me most. The amp definitely is off, but i'm still getting engine noise!

Maybe this could work:

I've tried ground loop isolators, and assuming the grounds are wirings are as good as can be, anyone think that this could make a difference?

I was experimenting with the system, when I unplugged the RCAs from the rear, the problem was gone. The isolator is on the fronts, no isolator on the rear. When I reconnected the rear speakers into the amp, the whine came back. I'm going to have the pros look over my system from top to bottom! Any other advice that anyone can offer me? I am going to try putting an isolator on the rear!
I decided to try and find some threads that could help you out. First up is one concerning pioneer headunits. In your profile it says you have the stock pioneer HU, so this might help-

So from looking through a couple more threads-
grounding out the headunit seems to help alleviate the whining. Find a place behind the headunit, scrap off the paint until it's shiny metal, and run a 14 gauge or so wire from the headunit to that grounding point. They also said to make sure that the amplifiers grounding point is the same shiny metal.
Try to keep your ground wires under 12 inches.
route your amplifier power cable and RCA cables as far apart as possible until the amplifier.

i guess try the isolators on the rear...theirs no logical reason for it to make noise unless it is a bad connection or bad components somewhere....but its hard to tell....try the isolators on the rear, otherwise i'm lost man
sorry my write up didnt help

Thank you both for your help, i've gotten so much info from various people and i'm going to have to try it all! Tomorrow is my only day off, so I will mess around with it all then!
Guys, I just tested the car. I unplugged my sirius radio from my aux in the center console and turned it off. I disconnected ALL of the RCAs on the amp, turned off the amp and the HU, and STILL got the whine, any advice or tips?
Could it be the spark plug wires by chance?

MAJOR CORRECTION: because I am an idiot, I did not see the amplifier light until now (it was behind some wires), I did not catch this:
The amp is on whenever the car is ON or the engine off but the ignition is in the ON position. The amp is on whether the HU is on or off! Dang!
Could this be causing the whine?
