explain this "immobilizer system". what is that? I'm guessing the electrics involved in the ignition aren't a simple on/off switch. I noticed on the PDF wiring diagram there's a transponder unit deep within the dash-do our cars use transponder keys? I thought those were only in expensive cars. hmmm. also there's a guy who did it in a crx I found after I posted, check this out:

granted the car is older but it apparently can be done. that's what I care about

oh and I also just read somewhere about the steering lock mechanism. apparently without the key in the barrel the steering wheel locks. I'm sure the lock can be mechanically removed ? again, security won't be an issue b/c I'm waiting to install a detachable sparco steering wheel.

engine immobilizer system is basically what is say. It prevents the engine from start if someone try to steal your car or if you put the wrong keys in the ignition. The red blinking light in the center console will turn off when the key is inserted. Our keys do have a transponder that sends the signal to the ecu, which is why I believe my keys gets hot all the time.

how does a mass of metal, glass, and plastic, know if someone is "trying to steal it." And of course your car won't start if you put the wrong key in it. That's true for anything that uses a key. My house has an immobilizer then, if I use the wrong key, I can't unlock the door!
I'm confused. But we're clear on the transponder. Will that eliminate the possibility of replacing the barrel with a push button?

The immobilzer means it cannot not be hotwired or have the ignition jammed and turned to start the car. EVEN if you find away to turn the ignition, without the transponder from the key, the car WILL NOT start.

do you remove the entire cigarette lighter assembly from the console panel to do this mod? If so, can you shed some light on that process? I cant get all of it off
