Default EQ settings on aftermarket setups

Do any of you guys with aftermarket systems (HU, amps, speakers, subs) leave your EQ settings on your deck at flat or do you go with play with the settings. Just tring to get a feeling how everyone does it

I've had the most luck with leaving it flat. If you know what you're doing... mess with it. My tuning skills are obviously lacking... in my opinion the tC has so much ambient noise it's not worth all the effort.

I'll probably be selling my stuff soon...

really depends on your listening tastes and how well you are able to tune your set up. Since everyones' set up and musical tastes are different it will depend soley on you. I'm not saying don't listen to anyone but if it is adjusted you'll need to do some final tweaking yourself. I hate when music is flat, I need to hear lows, especially sub bass. However my exgirlfriend hated sub bass, so I had several settings depending on the music as well as the persons in the car. If you have multiple settings like I do, turn the music up to your normal listening level, then adjust accordingly. Good luck

Ideally, "flat" would be the BEST option for pure SQ, that is, if the cars acoustic properties didn't peak certain frequencies... using an RTA would be the best option for EQ'ing to a perfectly balanced sound, but most people don't have access to one, nor know how to use them...

Personally, my EQ settings are flat most of the time with my bass boost and loud options off.... this gets me the closest to accurate sound I can find... I'd have to say that 90% of stereo systems that I've heard have way too much sub bass and way too much highs with nowhere near enough mid....

I agree with the unbalanced system. . . if you're an idiot like me and just want to rattle your way down the street not enough mids don't make too much of a difference. . .ha ha ha.

hey it's better then my last car. I had a 85 MB 190e with one of the first kenwood hiding face HU and infinity kappas and golds speakers with a orion blue 12"sub running off a jensen amp. . . talk about no mid bass. . .ha ha ha. . . I"m better now, but I am still think about upgrading again for more mid bass. . . just don't know what and who. . .that and I think I am getting rims soon so all that doesn't matter. . . nevermind me I'm rambling. . .For the original poster cause I don't want to hijack the thread. . . mess around a little, it's probably going to be the only way to find out what suits you. . . if all else fails just go back to the original settings.

I always "mess" with mine, I don't overkill the bass, but I like to hear the full range.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-6800MP headunit in my tC yesterday. I sat in my car for about an hour playing with the EQ to make it sound the way I like it.

^^ I did that when I first got my 9851, but now it's where I like it and the Fosgate amp I have has a sub controller that I mounted in the factory switch location so I can turn it up if I need more bass.

I would have messed with my EQ to get stuff just the way I like it, but the unit I bought already had like 8 presets. When I listen to industrial I go with the setting that's more punchy. D&B goes to the superbass setting. Acoustic goes to the vocal setting. If it didn't have presets I'd probably have done this myself anyways.

I have an alpine amp to go with the HU I spent another 60 bucks on a special cable that allows me to do all the adjustments except bass EQ from the headunit. . . Presets are nice on the alpine but there's about 20 factory and another 20 user ones. . . the 9855 is for audiophiles. . . I'm not one but damn it's nice.

I love that you can do soo much with the Alpine HU's like adjust the high/low freq and the bandwidth. It's amazing how far the technology has come.

True, at first I was a little overwhelmed but now I realize it's not too much more information. I just don't think I could get another headunit now. . .ha ha ha
