Default Factory Stereo Question

I'm a n00b to this forum, so I hope I havent asked a question that has been asked before. I have searched on this and not found a clear answer...

Is it possible to install an after market amplifier + subs to the stock stereo, or is it a better idea to purchase an aftermarket radio as well. And if I use an aftermarket radio do i need to get wiring harness + indash install kit ??

thanks for the help,
Tom

(the reason i ask about connections is because my tC is on delivery and i have to wait another week before it comes and i wanted to get my stereo stuff ready before so i can install it the same day i get it)

Yes you can hook up after market amps and sub to it. What you do is tap into the rear speakers with hi/lo adapters. Or you can search ebay and they sell a kit for around 50.00 but the rear speaker adapters only cost about 14.00. It takes a little bit of work but not much.

Cheers!

Hey I am a new Scion owner and new to this but is it just me or does the stock stereo not seem very loud? What do most of you have have just a stock stereo but your volume on for decent sound?

I dont think its bad compared to other stock systems. Its not the best but its better than my old GSRs stock speakers.

Hold down the SSP button and the screen will say tC. Click the volume button up (I Think) and change it to xA. Definately sounds louder.

Set it to XB setting. Do this by holding down the SSR button for 3 seconds. Also put the feeling to max.

I had an aftermarket Pioneer In-Dash CD for another car before and it was super loud at volume of 10. Not sure why this Pioneer system has such poor volume performance. If you tweak it a little you can get some above average sound. I put bass to max, treble to like 3, put feeling with the SSR button, and then hold SSR to get the XB setting. To get better sound I'm going to put in some MB Quarts components and Fosgate Amps soon.

yea I am scared of blowing my speakers but I want to be able to have good sound quality. Just wanted to see what everyone else's view was on this and what they were setting their volume to? I will definetly try the XB setting though. Hopefully it works. Thanks!!

i have mine set to xB on the ssp hear mode and the bass at 3, treb at 5, and the volume is usually between 30-33. i've often thought of trying to see how loud it wil in fact go, but im scared to break something.
