I am ordering the LEDs for mine and will calculate it all when they arrive. I will post as soon as I have the answer. I dont want to take it apart ahead of time since I have had the console apart multiple times and want to minimize taking it apart.

One question though. Which 0603's and 3mm LEDs are you using? They typically make a high output and standard for them.. .and that will make a difference on the values.

After this mod can you still adjust the brightness of the lights via the little **** that stick out of the gas/temp gauge area? Thanks

now how do you replace the clock odometer...thanks for all the info on the HU replace. I am wondering how many people have actually used resistors with their 3mm LCD LED's? some i think have said they didn't use a resistor, while others indicate they did. i am as confused as a hungry baby in a topless bar, on this one. Do i need them? don't i? planning to do this mod as soon as i get some time. Thanks.

WeeMan, we actually need resistors on those 2 3mm LEDs, but we are waiting for engifineer to get his LEDs and calculate how much ohms the resistors need to be.

Ordering this afternoon... what is the best source people are finding for the 0603's? So far mousers super bright 0603's for about a buck are the best I have found. Just thought I would check before ordering them.

I had purchasedsome 3mm LEDS for my cupholders and still had a few left. I purchased these with the resistor already attached and with heat shrink tubing over the legs. I removed the heat shrink tubing last evening and found a 430 ohm resistor.

I used two of these for the LCD in my xA conversion and they seem to be equivolent to the light output of the original LCD light bulbs.

Not sure if this info will assist anyone, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

BTW I have a variety of new resistors in numerous values in case anyone need some.

that price is really cheap... mouser.com ones are backordered now... I don't know if I should buy some on ebay and replace all of them or wait for mouser.com to get those back...
DoggyStyle, so using 430 resistors work? if yes, i will go buy some from Radio Shack or Fry's to do them... hopefully the extras don't blow when i try to get them to work again

Thats hard to say since the filtering effect of the gauge overlay could be different than the buttons.

The gauge and center console LEDs we use are capable of around 300 mcd. However, with the amount of current we are allowing I would say we are somewhere around 200 or less. The buttons on the stereo are so small and dim looking compared to the rest of the dash I dont think we would be doing bad with the lower rated ones. For those who have used the ones off of ebay, how bright do they look compared to the gauges?

just another question engifineer, is there anyways to replace the LEDs for key insertion? factory color is white... it's cool to me already, but if it's blue, gonna be tight!

Those are for the tC. On the console one look through all of my posts, I did add an update regarding the clock portion. I need to clean up that tech article soon.

Here are pics of how they turn out once the center console circuit mod is performed:

I have not thought of the key light yet... that may be a cool one to look into

Guys here is a pic of my HU before my LCD Leds died on me.....sorry its a little shaky but you can see that the gauges and buttons on the head unit match up perfect..... THE PROBLEM is the Lcd Leds and those ebay ones arent cheap quality either....i have had them in there for 2 weeks now with no problems....of course at night i cant see my LCD screen but thats a different issue

I also ordered from ebay. I had the LEDs in 1 week. They are decent quality and the light output is great.
