Default First time installing system, ran into a few problems

Well, my dad and I started at about 2 and finished at around 6 this evening, we ran all the wires needed. First "speedbump" we ran into was that the lugs that came with the hook up kit were not fitting ATLEAST snug onto the wires, so we tried to squeeze them to fit accordingly; it was a waste of time. Even after, they were still loose, so they barely hung on. I think the biggest roadblock was that we were having trouble with the remote start. Does this have to use a specific wire, or gauge? I was crossing my fingers to see my cute little CRUNCH logo light up its shimmering blue but it didnt. Ground was on chassis, but not permanately. Did I miss anything? Oh yeah we got a line output converter and spliced them onto the rear speakers and connected the RCA cables, but we cant find out if that works till we have power to the amp..

the remote into your amp should be tapped off the blue wire from the back of yoru deck.. and what do you mean by "the lugs"?

The remote wire goes to a positive 12V power source, preferably one that is only active when the ignition is in the "ON" position. Most people tap in to the radio for the remote. Another possibility is tapping in to the cigarette lighter. Yet another option is running a switch from a 12V source into the switch and to the Remote wire on the amp. Sorry, but don't know which wire off hand to tap the remote to.

Also, it is recommended that you solder the wires instead of using wire nuts or taping them together. Once soldered, wrap exposed wires with electrical tape (obviously not together), or shrink wrap them.

For a clean install, use zip ties or wire ties and wrap the wires in bundles behind the head unit. It makes for an easier time if you ever need to get back there again or run other wiring.

The piece of metal that you attach to the end of the wiring for a better connection. We attached the remote wire to the blue wire on the back of the stock head unit, but it still didnt turn on.

Okay, so I was getting a little restless and decided to take action into my own hands. I went outside and switched the remote start, before my dad put it on the orange one, but it wasnt working.. So I took it off and put it on one of the blue ones (there was two, I didnt know which one was which..) So then I go and I check the connections, and to my surprise, my dad mixed up the ground and remote starter, so I moved them to their appropriate place. Then I checked looked for a grounding, but it still wouldnt power. Then I sort of dragged it around one of those quarter sized openings near the spare tire and I got a big ole spark, scared me too haha. Lo and behold the amp powers up... but it doesnt want to turn off when the key is off, so Im guessing I put the remote on the wrong blue wire? Im assuming I did because it didnt turn off..

PS- If the remote and ground wires werent in the wrong spots, would the remote have worked with the orange wire that my dad put it on? Would it have turned off when the radio was off?

Yeah, that must be the wrong blue wire. At the top of the ICE and interior forum there is a sticky called tC electrical wiring diagrams. Use that to find out which wires are which. Also if you have a multimeter, just take it out and test the wires to find out which one is the accesory on the radio.

I'm not sure which wire is the orange or the blue one you are talking about, but the accesory wire that you need to tap into is a gray wire. I believe it is in one of the smaller plugs. In the electrical diagrams go to the 156-159 audio system pdf and it will show you which one to tap into.

So it should be the gray wire? I thought the radio wire with the 12v was a blue one?

Edit: Okay took me a few to read the diagram. Now I cant even try it.. My mom stole the car from me to take it to the dealership for something... Sigh. Hopefully shes done in time so when my dad gets here he can do the changes.
