Default Fitment question about Eclipse AVN5435

Hey there people. Ive been checking out the AVN5435 and will probably purchase it pretty soon. My question is, it looks as if the 5435 is a tad bit small in width and needs some sort of plastic piece around it to compensate. What gives? I thought it was flush on the dash since its double-din. Is the sorrounding piece included in the harness where the radio is screwed onto?

Is there any unit that fits perfectly into the dash with no spaces?

I want to do the install myself and want to know what im getting into =D Thanks for the help SL.

there is some sort of toyota kit that fills in the gaps. There is a toyota part number but I have no idea what it is. search and you'll probably come across it.

another issue you will have is when you close the radio door. all you have to do is take the door off. it is two pieces. just cut the back side out and you wont have a problem.

that is what i had to do any way.

Metra 95-8202 kit, available at Circuit City. Last I looked, it doesn't show up on their website, so you have to call and ask.

Drilling the bracket to get proper fitment is easy the locations are practically marked for you. The only thing you have to do is remove the remaining fitment "nubs" so you can get a flush surface to mount.

Once you take out the stock unit and look at the bracket, you'll see exactly what i'm talking about.

Once you drill those holes and mount the 5435 with the Metra kit, it'll look flawless. Looks like it was made for the car.

hey thanks alot guys, i had been asking myself how it was going to be done a couple of times =) Im going to do the install myself as there isnt anybody i can trust to do it for me.

Is the installation for a AVN5435 doable? Ive learned a couple of things setting up my eD stuff, tuning, wiring, and grounding but I havent gone much deeper than that. Any help would be great. I am checking out a bunch of articles so I can make a good setup =)

Well, I don't think you'll have any problems. The factory harnesses all fit right into the back of the AVN-5435 - so you won't have to worry much about the wiring.

I routed the GPS antenna to the very front edge of the dash under the windshield. It was really easy to route it there. All you have to do is take off the passenger side A-pillar trim (pops right off). That allows you to route the wire to that corner. From there you can place the GPS antenna in a very good spot.

The very edge where the dash and windshield meet is a good spot since you can easily push the wire for the GPS antenna with a pencil and hide it completely under the dash.

Drilling the factory bracket is cake as well. If you run into any problems, let me know. I'm right across the GWB in Jersey.

Right, you don't need the harness. The stock harnesses plug right into the Eclipse units. Makes the wiring part silly easy

The only thing you have to wire up is the Speed Sensor lead to the computer. If you do a search you can find exactly where it is.

Didn't want to post a new message but how is the Navigation itself. Is it accurate and easy to follow?

Thanx

Accurate, yes. Easy to follow, yes. But it SURE would be nice if that woman could sound like she knows how to finish a sentence.
