Default Flat paint clear coat protectant?

So in painting rampage that started with the tear drop center piece, I have begun painting a lot of my interior pieces. All have turned out well, say for the center console, interior side skirts and kick panels. These are all flat black pieces.

The problem is, is that when practicing with the clear coat (to protect from scratches) I get a glossy finish. Without this, the flat black enamel scratches and easily shows marks.

Any advice on what to do?

i went to two hardware stores and I couldn't find it. The store clerks were no help either. Lowes and Home Depot didn't have it.

can anyone else confirm that there is a flat clear coat?

Look for satin clear. It probably won't say flat on it. If you have an arts and crafts store around you should try them.

usually... to get "flat" clear coat... your going to need to go toa body shop supply store... and buy it by the pint or gallon and use a spray gun... you dont get the same effects out of a rattle can....

satin is like a mixture of flat and shiny it's a dull shiny kind of.. professionally you have to add an additive to it to make sure it's a "flat" look..

I live in Michigan and all the Lowes carry Valspar Flat Clear Cloat. If you cant find it there in your area, most art supply stores carry flat matte clear.

^^^ does that come in the spray can? I'm going to call around if it is.

also, if it is only in the form of a can and I have to paint it on, what kind of results can I expect? I ordered new center console stuff, but I will try and do this to the kick panel and door trim piece if possible.

Krylon Matte Clear 3530 is what you need........although it is not 100%flat anymore it is all that is left.there used to be a better Flat Clear on the market that I used to use for art retoration, but now all i can use is matte or mix my own which is a pain......

Satin can go on with dull finish as well, but after a couple of coats it is more of a shine to it.......

Yeah, the Valspar Flat Clear is in a spray can.
krylon makes model #7120 (i believe) that is a matte clear coat. Picked it up at a modeling/art store. $5/can. Works like a charm.

the valspar I saw was only online, came in a standard paint can (not spray), and is super expensive.
