forgot the ebrake mod?
so i forgot to apply the ebrake and i never leave my car in gear. i noticed my car rolling away from the pump one day. how embarrassing chasing down a runnaway car in a parking lot.
anyways. i got a new one for you DIY'ers
if you have an after market security system. there's a way for your alarm to warn you if you applied the ebrake or not.
tools:
-wire strippers,
-about 5-8 feet of 16-20 awg wire,
-solder and a solder gun,
-3m electrical tape
-alarm programmer (bit writer for DEI alarms) or owners manual on how to switch from norm open to norm closed.
Step:
1. - remove all necessary dash components to access your alarm brain and ebrake base. ie lower dash, shifter column, and cup holders)
2. - locate the hood pin wire on the brain (if not used on hood pin)... normally grey 18 awg wire.
3. - run the 4-8 feet of wire from the grey wire to the wire connected to the ebrake.
4. - there are two ways to have it programmed (a. normally opened, and b. normally closed)
a. when the alarm is armed, with the Ebrake engaged, the alarm will give a delayed beep, (similar to a door ajar beep) notifying you that the ebrake is engaged.
b. when the alarm is armed, with the Ebrake NOT engaged, the alarm will give the delayed beep notifying you the ebrake is NOT engaged.
i have yet to do this, i just thought of it at work. ill post pics once i do the install.

It's funny, I only owned auto's before the tc and the ebrake was a foot ebarke and never really used it. I get the man. tc and it just became second nature to me. It is a good little mod though for those who want everything.
you didn't notice that the car was still rolling when you got out of the car
since the gas station incident, im always running back to my car after ive locked it to check if the ebrake is engaged. (very bad short term mem)
so sittn at work got me thinkin... there must be an easier way.
That is a clever way to rig your alarm system. I rigged a neutral safety switch that runs through the ground switch on the emergency brake for my remote start. But good way to use the instant trigger.
However leaving the emergency brake down is kinda odd once you are in the habit, but i have come back to my car with the brake down once or twice and was totally lost with how it got that way.

you dont have to hate like that. i was just boared at work and got into thinking of stupid $hit that some one could do if so inclined. theres plenty of things you can have activate/deactivate apon arming/disarming an aftermarket alarm.
