Default Fuel gauge not working right.

I have a 2008 TC I got a code for the fuel cap not tightened all the way. I pulled the negative battery lead to clear the code, which I've done before for the same problem. This time it screwed up the fuel gauge. When I fill the tank the fuel needle pegs all the way to the left until it hits the other needle for the temp gauge. And when it's low enough for the gas light to come on it reads about 1/2 tank. Any ideas for a fix. I don't want to have to pay a dealer to fix it.

That's wierd. Has the gauge cluster been taken apart at any point? I ask because it sounds like the needle is off and could just need to be placed back in the correct position.

I did this when I was painting the needles on my car. There's a diy somewhere showing how to calibrate the needles. You can try that and see if it solves it first.

one of the previous owners did an LED mod on the gauges. but we've had it for 2 years and this just happened. Who ever did the mod f'd up the speedo light(it doesn't work) but that's a different issue.

Well the only thing I can think of is who ever did the mod might not have pressed the needle down firm enough and over time it has shifted out of place.

I'd take it back out and re-sit the needle which is pretty simple really.
