Default FYI LED DIYers

I found a website in my travels to help those without mathematical knowledge about the calculations or just wanting to double check their calculations on LED series/parallel circuits.

http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz

Have not got to test it yet myself for accuracy. It looks like this site also has other LED calculators for your use!

to them!

Personally I would break into more branches and use a larger resistor rather than using 1 ohm limiting resistors in the circuits as their calculator suggests to. For example with 4 3V leds on a 12V circuit, it says to put them all in series and use a 1 ohm resistor. Due to tolerance and the fact that it would create a slightly unpredictable circuit, you would be better off using two branches of 2 leds with 220 - 300 ohm resitors for each.

The calcs look correct, I just dont care for thier design strategy too much. Not that the designs wont work.. I just dont think they are the best designs.

True..

I guess I was looking at it for more of an "easy way out" method for calculations and such.

I used to be more informed on the whole electrical side of things. I just got back into electrical system and design again recently. So many of the theories and formulas are new to me and sometimes mix themselves up.

So..for a newer person like me...any little bit helps.
