Default GPS Antenna - Sunroof Track??

I just installed an AVIC F90BT and placed the GPS antenna on top of the hood, in the middle of the two windshield washer nozzles. Although the tC has a neat radio cover as a theft deterrant, I am paranoid that the current position of the GPS antenna would be asking for trouble. I've searched and saw someone placing their GPS antenna in the sunroof track. How is that done??

Thanks!
Lewis

When you have the "waterfall" removed when you installed the radio.... You can put the GPS antenna on top of the air vents and then the 'waterfall" covers it when its put back on....... That's where most people put theres or you can put it behind one of the A-Pillars...

Let me try to get a pic...

If you want it in the sunroof track ask SquallLHeart.

Here's a pic...

after placing it there, i routed the wires forward a bit and poked a small hole in the weather stripping to allow the wires to go thru.

when the moonroof is closed, the pressure of the glass still presses down on the weather strip thus still making a seal.

from there, just routed the wires inside the headliner, down the pillar, and to the unit.

the b pillar and the waterfall will work fine. a small amount of plastic covering it wont have to much of an effect on the navigation. i would keep anything and everything away from the moon roof!!!!! moving parts and weather stripping = bad idea!!!

Thanks! Never thought about poking a small hole into the weather stripping before. It may sound frightening, but if you actually look at the weather stripping, when poked on the side, it's completely harmless.

Overall, it was a very stealthy install; only frustrating part was routing it thru the headliner - that required the use of my small asian hands haha. I don't think moving parts/rain will be a problems as I've placed it in a location where nothing can crush it - plus, it's an outdoor GPS receiver anyway! Will post pictures tomorrow.

I put my Sirius antenna under the plastic vent piece that is between the windshield and the hood on the passenger side. I don't know what it's called. It's completly hidden and totally open to the sky. I used an epoxy to keep it there. I'll post pics of it later.

^ true.

all of my antennas are under the plastic of the upper dashpanel. visible antennas of any kind make me vomit a little bit.

IMO, the best spot to put it is where I have it ;)

Right above the stereo, the two air vents... you can put it on top of the vents, UNDER the dash.
It's totally hidden and I never get less than a full signal.
And you don't have to go through the trouble of running it to and removing pillars...

I know... it's been long. I got lazy lol. Here are the installed pics! Probably the hardest part was routing the wire thru the headliner and down the A Piller. That was a PITA. Thanks for the instructions, SquallLHeart!

I put some silicon where the hole was pierced. It's a little messy but barely looks noticeable after some clearn up. Been in rain and car wash and have gotten no leaks at all!
