Default hardwiring a portable gps receiver?

hey everyone, i just bought a JVC eAvinu gps system from my local compusa. i'm mounting it on the bottom left of the windshield (by driver's side pillar). my problem is finding a way to hardwire it. i obviously don't want a massive wire going across my entire dash, so i was thinking that i could just drop the wire down the driver's vent opening to the driver's side interior fuse box. has anyone tested that area to see if there's a good 12v power source that i'd be able to connect my gps to? any help or experience is appreciated. thanks!

I would suggest that you remove the dash and place the wire under it. Don't run it through the vent because 1 - it will be seen, 2 - it could interfer (though very slightly) with the air being blown through the vent and 3 - it may prevent the vent from being shut.

It wouldn't be hard to snake that wire down under the vent. Then you could tap into the fuse box... and yes, there are good 12v power sources there, the first one that comes to mind if the sunroof.

Yeah the sunroof is great, splice into the orange wire for power in the sunroof controls. If you have questions regarding the sunroof job, pm me I'll help ya out.
