Has anyone sanded down their door panels and painted them?
Just like the subject says has anyone painted their doors? I have some gouges on my door panel where the glass was broken and I was wondering if anyone had done this. I have a couple friends that had done this to their dash and doors and I was just wanting to see some pics of what people have done to their doors
Its hard to see the gouges but here is a picture

I have not, but I have scratched up the center console. Sanding and painting it didn't look right, so I just bought new pieces. I don't know man...it's a hard job. Maybe someone else can send you in the right direction for a how-to.

I dont really want to pay the 500 dollars for a new panel so I figured I would try something. I had a friend that has pretty much his whole interior that was as smooth as the outside of his car. I am kinda thinking of it looking like the Beetle door panels. Who knows it might be one of those projects I never get around to.

is that the driver's side or passenger? I have the passenger side...wait, it's messed up too because the idiot parts guy didn't know about the screw behind the chrome handle when he pulled it off the parts car...you can try to find a replacement panel on ebay or craigslist for under $80 if painting doesn't work out.

I have not done mine but I ahve done a lot of interior parts and you are in for a lot of sanding......then a lot more to get it better and then even more to make sure it is smooth.......and that is before you start to prime.......figure 10 hours each door to get it all smooth and primed and ready to paint and clear.

here's a driver's side on ebay....looks like the insert has been re-done with vinyl CF. You can take apart the whole thing and replace the top, then sell the rest if u wanted 2...:

Rough sand what you can with like 100 grit. Then lay down 3-4 light coats of Duplicolor filler primer, and wet sanding the final coat with 800 grit until it's smooth.
On top of the filler primer, spray 3-4 coats of your main color, and wetsand every coat except the first. The first coat should be just a dusting of paint to promote adhesion. Once you're done with the main color, lay down 4-5 coats of clear. Wet sand all of them but the first and the last coat that you do.
