Default Help getting new speakers

Hey I'm planning to change up my front speakers with either alpine type r or infinity reference component speakers, any input on these speakers? Also I heard that with the tc it isn't worth changing the back speakers, is this true?

I heard the same thing. I faded the stereo for front only to hear the difference and it was pretty noticeable. I like having speakers all around, but once I change out speakers it will definitely be the fronts then rears (car is too small to change rear first).

It really just depends on what kind of listener you are. If you are someone who has a critical sense of hearing and really likes his music to sound like it's supposed to were the band on a stage sitting on your dash, then front components is THE only way to go. However, if you just would rather have a little extra meat to your sound, a little more midbass/volume, then components up front and midbasses or coaxials in back isn't bad. I run front components only, but they're amplified and I have a sub behind me to fill out the low-end...sounds amazing!

Personally, I would stay away from Infinity components, their tweeters are wayyy too harsh. I've never heard Type-R's, but if they're anything like the Type-R subwoofer counterpart, they're probably sloppy and overpriced. I'm going to recommend a company you have probably never heard of, but this component system is tried and true and comparable to many twice and three times the price! I use them in my car and tcguy85 on here does as well and we both love them.

Phoenix Gold RSD's: http://cgi.ebay.com/PHOENIX-GOLD-RSd...QQcmdZViewItem

And here's a review of them (keep in mind that while the ratings seem low-ish, the other $300 sets tested score similarly): http://www.caraudiomag.com/reviews/c...5cs/index.html

I wish you the best of luck and come back with any more questions!

Rear fill is def not needed. It is a waste of resources, use that extra money to invest in a nice set of components for the front.

That's not specific to the tC, but pertains to ALL cars.

Others already posted some of the considerations for whether or not rear speakers should be used, either stock or aftermarket upgrades. It's a matter of personal choice, some people just like a lot of sound and don't care so much about the presentation, so they'll upgrade all 4 speakers and use a 4 channel amp with equal power front & rear, which is fine for them. If you're more of an audiophile and like to get the feel of an actual musical performance in your car, then there's no need to use any rear speakers, and implementing them can actually detract from what one is trying to achieve.

Between those speakers you listed I would go with the type R and a alpine amp to go with it. I would leave the rears alone and fade more towards the front. Theres no need to replace the rears unless you or someone will be listening in the back and if you do replace them then you have to buy another amp which will cost more. A good mtaching sub would be Type R 12 with the pdx 600.1

Ugh... only settle for a Type R if you can't spare an extra $25-50. The Type-R is definitely a budget "SPL" woofer, if you could call it anything.

The Type R series are decent for the prices they go for (on the net). They are "great for the price" like the tC. They might not be the best but they will do for most people in general (assuming the OP is one of those people) that don't want to spend too much on audio. I suggested the Type R sub because it is a perfect match for the Type r components since they are in the same league and can be found for cheap ($100). They can get loud, sound great, and best of all, easily found for cheap.....what more can you want.
On the other hand, yes there are other sets that might be better in the same price range like Phoenix Gold RSDs but I said "between those sets he suggested".
To the OP- I suggest you listen to anything before you buy...that way you know what to expect.

why does this site only recommend 2 things, type r and rsd's. let me say this, i've had alpine subs and the rsd's and you will be SHOCKED the amount of difference between the cheaper stuff and a quality speaker (dls, rainbow, seas etc...) spend the extra money and get a quality product, you're going to want to upgrade your type r and your rsd's anyway so just do it right the first time.

I totally agree but some people are satisfied with decent (respectable) equipment and don't want to spend too much. Thats why audio companies have different lines for consumers. Not everyone needs or can afford audiophile speakers.

i'm not saying that, but NOBODY ASKED HIS BUDGET,

maybe he does want it but nobody will ever know, the point is default is type r and rsd's. you can do much better if you spend a bit more money but people here are too ignorant to even ask that because they recommend what they have because they want to think they have the best $hit when they don't

well he did say he was going to go with either of those two if I read correctly. they are in the same price range so i assume that would be his budget. I recommend JBL GTI series by the way, I like my beat down low.....haha

Definitely! And ideally listen to them installed in a similar car. Most good audio shops have demo or customer cars, and the speakers will sound a lot different installed in-car than they do when mounted on a big "demo board" inside the shop.

Thanks for everybody's feedback. As for price range, I'm willing to spend like 175-200 on the component speakers and back speakers. The reason why I listed the alpine type-r and infinity reference is because I found them on amazon for a low price. Maybe down the road I'll put an amp to the speakers. Right now I have a alpine hu and already have an alpine type-r sub, sorry for the lack of information but again thanks for all the input

they're going to sound HORRIBLE without an amp man, they're going to distort and you wont get much volume, you're headunit puts out maybe 50 watts and those things need like 200-300 watts (because you're running passive) in order to really sing, and even then, they're type r so they wont really sing very well

Stick with the stock setup until you can afford an amp. You don't need rear speakers!! If you get a decent front stage you will not even use your rear speakers thus being a complete waste of money. Use that money to get a decent amp and component set.

Well after reading everybody's opinion I think I'm just gonna change the front speakers and put an amp to it. I'm gonna go with

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer..._bxgy_e_text_b

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer...4168004&sr=8-2

I'm pretty sure about the speakers but if you guys think theres a better amp out there for about the same price, please give some suggestion

Before you buy speakers, you must listen to them. Infinitys are bright while Alpines are not...they're both good but what you like more is up to your ears. I prefer a bright sound

Also, why Infinity and Alpine? Yeah they're good brands, but imo you can do much better without having to really spend more. Look at CDT audio for example.

I also wouldn't get an Infinity amp...once again they're not bad but it's nothing special either
