Well, like I said I've never bought my own equipment before... but for example, sans D3 'cause I know its price and I'm getting it either way, for a good system (the name's I've seen... eD, JL, etc.) of front comps, amp(s), sub(s), and whatever else is included (as I'm sure plenty of you have done a similar setup) what is the usual total cost?

So far, you have the mounts that cover up the gap between the HU and the console - link was posted about.

The PAC is here:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-BnWmpua...asp?i=127SWIPS
That will let you use the steering wheel controls.

You will prolly want a bypass so you can use the DVD player and all GPS funtions while driving, so that can be found here:
[irl]http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4651[/url]

For speakers - people are right that it depends on how much money you have and what you want for sound quality. I would personally go look at some at a stereo shop to see what you think sounds best. Opinions are nice, but it's your opinion that matter in your car.

The Subs and Amp... again, depends on the size of your wallet, and how big of a migraine you want. Just be sure that the ohms and wattage match each other. You get an amp too powerful, or too week, and you could blow your subs.

Just curious though, why are you so set on the D3 vice something like the Z1? Cost?

depends how decent you want. i did a budget system for my car...cdt hd-62/m6i set for 350 (not available at that price anymore), eD nine.2x amp (225...depending on what you order from the, you might still be able to get that), jl 250/1 amp nicely used off of ebay for 180, eD sq10 sub and tC stealth box 210, about 125 worth of sound deadening from eD, and a clarion EQS746 eq from cardomain for 60. i already had an alpine 9857 deck. also had to get all the installation stuff....about 100 bucks from knukonceptz.com (wire) and 40 from eD (baffles for speakers)....so about 1170 overall.

Yeah, I have put about 3200 in my stereo so far, and I am not done yet. (I spent more on the last stereo with baffles, interios speakers and amp, etc).

Right now, I have the Avic Z1, the SoundStream DaVinci amp and 2 12" HE2's. I don't have the interior speakers replaced just yet because... well, I am not made of money. But I will soon. And when I do, it will be the best quality (that I can afford at least. )

The brand/model of speakers isn't as important as their location. If you're going to spend the big bucks on front components (forget rears), then mount them in the kick panels if you're looking for sound quality.

I'd rather listen to an average speaker in a great location, than a great speaker in a poor location.

Not trying to threadjack, just curious if someone could pm me some info on what all I would need to do to just upgrade/amp up the existing tC sound system with the stock headunit. I have the one with the built in iPod adapter thingy, and just want better speakers and a good sounding sub for right now, til I can do a major overhaul. Thanks

Head Unit: I'm pretty dead-set on the AVIC-D3... so you might as well not even try to sway me otherwise Tongue But I would like to know what I need to buy to (a) keep my steering wheel controls and (b) hide the area between the HU and the console bezel.

Front Speakers: No idea...

Rear Speakers: ... Same Loser Roll On Floor Laughing

Sub: No idea BUT I would like one that is 10" so I can use the Bazooka box I already have... unless you guys think it's pure garbage in which case I also have no problem making a new box (never done it, but I'm always up for a project...).

Deadening: Ok, brand preference? And I was planning on deadening just the trunk floor, sub side of the trunk, hatch latch area, front doors, rear panels around speakers... is that good enough?
Front speakers: eD 6500, CDT slc265,cdt cl-61(i think thats what it is), Rainbows...idk pick a model
Rear speakers: with a good front component set rear fill isnt needed and a waste of money
Sub: is all preference and the type of music you listen to, JL makes some good ones, i have a Phoenix Gold RSd12d and i love it for 80 bucks.hehe powered by a PG xenon 600.1
Deadening: RAAMmat http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi

I'm looking into a new system and I was thinking about going with Mbquart PCE 216 or just upgading to QSD 216. How good are these speakers? I have only heard good thing about MBquart. Are they a soild comapny?

Also, I saw ED has DLS and i like the DLSUP6, but is it worth the extra $$$ for these compared to 6500.

I'm only going with fronts ...So willing to drop like 300-400 on fronts.

Also...the point of my system is cleaner sound and good overall performance...I dont want to be pushing major bass.

mbquarts are bright as f*ck. if you like that sound then go for it, but they're brighter than hell. i'd stick with one of the brands i mentioned before. DLS iridium 6.2i's on ebay would be awesome...and they're priced pretty well there considering their $750 retail price. UR6's are nice, but if you can budget the 475 or so for the iridium's those are definitely worth it.

They're not that BRIGHT! At least my Discus aren't, and they're the lowest model.
