Default Help w/ amp and sub intall in 08

I'm getting ready to install an amp and subs in a 2008 tC w/ a stock headunit and I'm just about ready to start. I picked up this LOC - now I have a couple questions.

1. Has anyone tried tapping the source signal for the factory sub? I think this would be easier that tapping the rear source signal. If not, then why?

2. The LOC has inputs for the front and rear source. If I'm connecting a mono block, I just need to tap the rear/ sub source, right?

3. Is there a wiring diagram for the 08 tC's yet? I can't find one.

Also any input on the LOC I have would be nice. c

wiring manuals for the '07+ are here: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=138455

It's the standard factory HU (not the upgrade = no preouts).

Is the 07 wiring the same? I didn't think that year came with the OEM subwoofer.

1. Good idea, might be the best way to go, but don't recall seeing anyone having done it.

2. Correct.

3. See PapaMan's link.

Which LOC are you using? Can't say anything about it if I don't know which one you have...

I linked to the LOC in my first post ( 'this' is a hyper link - just not easily visible on this board). Here it is again -

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GbKfaBo...verter&tp=2001

I checked PapaMan's link and looked through the pdf's, but the 2008 tC subwoofer isn't shown.

Oh, ok, that's the same LOC I've been using for 3yrs. Great unit, no issues.

If you can determine which of the sub's harness wires are for the signal, you could certainly feed them to the LOC, it should work fine. I'd swear there was at least one person here who at some point posted the wiring diagram for the stock sub, but I'm not sure how difficult it might be to find at this time, since that was a while back.

Otherwise, I'd suggest disconnecting your rear speakers and using their wires as input to the LOC for the sub. This would give you the ability to balance the mid-hi to sub output of the system by using the HU's fader control.

Yep - looks like it's time to get out the DMM -

Did you tap the rear source at the speaker, or behind the HU?

That's what I expect - and what I'm trying to find out.

I don't think there is a factory amp back there, but I haven't looked yet.

the 6in factory woofer is powered by a little amp, and it gets its signal from the rear speakers, matter of fact i tapted my remote wire off the harness that plugs into the factory sub/amp setup

Is the little amp built into the enclosure that houses the sub? Do you remember is the wire you tapped is gray, like on the back of the HU?

Neither. I used the front speaker wires behind the HU. I'm running bi-amped 2-channel (w/o rear fill) with an active crossover and already had a nice 17ft. RCA cable, so I went with it.

I initially intended to disconnect the rear speakers, splice into their wires and extend them to the LOC, which would have been located next to the xover & amps in the hatch, but there's so much space for the LOC inside the console, I put it there instead.

It's true. I faded the sound to the front - bass. Fade to the back, no bass.

I might try to get to it this weekend, but when I do I'll document.
