What is a "HO ALT"? Is that like an alternate garden ho?

I guess because I don't know what it is, I don't need one. But I would still like to know what it is.

correct, if you dont know you dont need one lol... its a High Output Alternator... for tCs with large stereos or other electronics which require more power then the stock electrical can provide.

Oh, well I guess it couldn't hurt. I am sure that my SoundStream DaVinci amp is pulling more power than many other amps out there. On top of the computer that I am about to put in. So, I'm watching.

Oh, and for the record, I thought you might be talking about an alternator. But the whole "HO" thing threw me off.... way off. LoL

yeah, money well work on, but IMO i would like 150amps at idle and 250ish at speed for less the $500. (the 250amp i had in my suburban was only $300 shipped)

I would consider it.

And the whole if you dont know what it is, you dont need it, isnt true. I am pretty proficient with cars and have done all my systems, body kit, you name it. But had no clue when i saw HO ALT, what it would be.

well i was looking at a 200 at idle for 400 so it should be significantly less than that for a GB

i was thinking the same. when i drained my first yellow top (currently on my second) i started to look at alts, but then stopped. but would still be intrested.

here is a little note for people with a s/c'er: a high output alt, will take up more room, and might not with with the s/c'er because of the s/c'ers pulley.

i'd like to get a 200 at idle for 300 but anything is better than the 60 stock tbh. just make the pricepoint worth it

every HO alt ive seen are slightly larger than stock because it typically has more coils in the alt, which requires a larger housing. i havent seen one thats the same size besides ones that were remade at a machine shop

depending upon the capacity, the form factor can remain the same.

Couldn't you just overdrive the alternator pulley? You'd miss mb 1 or 2 hp but if you need a HO ALT(lol), I'm guessing that your system would slow you down more than the pulley. But then again, I could be wrong on both accounts.

overdriving the alt with a high load will eventually burn it up, and it will need to be replaced. so its better (IMO) to just get a H.O. alt.

and yes, a heavy system will add into the speed/power factor

I figured it would, just as underdriving has it's own adverse effects. However, if your S.C.'d and space is an issue, I'd assume o.d. is the way to go, no?
