How do you take off the SHIFT plate cover for an automatic?
1. take off the ****..
2. that whole center piece pops off.. it's held in at the 4 corners.. you will see the lines... not the silver.. but the black and silver.. that whole thing... not just the plate that tells you what gear you're in.

It pulls BACK and up. Dont just pull up or you will break the clips off. I start at the back ends of the silver part where it meets the lower console. Put the car in neutral or drive. Pull that whole peice back towards the armrest and up. Once it pops loose, unplug the cig lighter harness.
^^ yeah, they break easy.. the pain with new cars, they all snap apart easilly, but you have a chance of breaking the clips. And when the car gets older, and the plastic gets more brittle, you can bet on having issue breaking them if you arent really careful. And on this car the clips are replaceable. So keep some super glue handy
