Default How hard is it to install an alarm in the tC?

Well I have almost all the stuff i've ever dreamed of audio wise.

I dont want anyone to mess with the car so im ready to get an alarm.

In general how hard is an alarm install?

Im pretty good at finding wires and wiring in general.
im not a master tech but ive done all of my own installs but have never doen an alarm.
I have done nav units,xm/siris,subs and amps, the usual stuff.

I was looking at this alarm http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Expan...=9#custRatings

would that work with our cars? I've heard some cars and alarms dont mix.

If thats not a good alarm what do you guys recomend? Or does someone have an alarm they have in thier car? im looking for remote start and a way to keep the keyless entry. I dont really care to much about the trunk popper or anything like that.
Of course I want an alarm with a siren.

Also where did you mount your alarm brain box? I know thieves know where these are located most of the time so where is a good place to hide the box?

thanks

The new viper lcd pager has sst 2-way pager which provides quite a bit better range than the older version...except still has issues in certain building and parking garages. They arent too hard to install just depends on your experiance of course..mine was quite a bit easier to install considering ive done my cars with the dash completely out to a bare firewall where all the hard ware and back up batteries are located

Well, the link you provided for the python 1400 will work in your car as long as you are looking for remotestart and keyless entry only. That unit is not an alarm. You want a unit like this http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Searc...rchSection=All If you are planning on buying a unit like this at a store such as circuit city or best buy, let them install it. The installation price is included in the price listed. You have to keep in mind that we have a transponder in our keys that will require extra parts and labor to bypass. If you dont bypass this the car will not start no matter what you try. Installation of a remote start is not something i suggest for a novice. You will have to search for many wires and unless you have some sort of tech program you will never find all the wires needed. Like the mulitple wires needed to run the locks. the door trigger, the park lights and the Tachometer wire... just to name a few

Install for any alarm by them should not be more than $150-$200....I got an alarm installed by CC in my Nissan truck...which had manual door locks and windows...

$150+tax and labor....

You really shouldn't spend more than $200 for everything...

A Clifford 50.5 system costs about $300 w/o installation. Local prices here in San Francisco run about $500 installed, but I think our labor is higher than most other places. Install shops will not officially install remote start on manual transmissions due to liability reasons.

I do this stuff for a living. If your going to do it take your time. You can only take off the steering column to access the ignition harness. And if you want to do this on a manual transmission you need to get yourself a 689M module for it. Here is the wires you need...

Also since you need to diode isolate the doors. Pick yourself up 3 amp diodes. And go to the12volt.com to learn more about wiring it.

I've installed remote starters on 3 vehicles. The only one I've had a problem with is a Ford Focus. Can't find any usable tach wires... But, everything else is easy as pie. In fact, the camry I put it in, you just hook up 2 wires to the door lock control wires under the passenger footspace, and thats done... then the remote start was easy as well... no tach wire required. Everything took under an hour on that one.
