Default How hard is it to self install a system?

Soon i am going to try to install a system into my car myself (and help from friends). Im just wondering how much knowledge you need to have to do it. I have enough knowledge to setup a home theater system, is it basically the same idea as that? I also know how to do basic wiring as in tapping into them and such. Or would it be better just to take the parts to a professional and have them install it?

THANKS in advance

run fused power from battery to the back
run rca's to the back
wire in lineout converter if necessary
run remote to the back
run remote bass **** wire if necessary to the back
setup a grounding point
attach wires to amplifiers + secure amps
wire sub(s) to amp(s)

little time consuming, but not hard

How hard it is really depends on what you mean by "system". Before starting, plan out each action you'll be taking, then review them to determine your confidence level with DIY. A basic upgrade like adding a sub & amp isn't difficult and is a great project for someone to learn with, but for some elaborate installs it's best for those with limited knowledge and experience to seek out a professional. Good luck!

Sounds like a nice project to learn on, if you feel you're up to it. Search a bit on this site, as there are several threads containing pictures of what you'll need to do. If you can see how things come apart and what others had to do for their installs, it should make yours much easier. You might want to start with "How to Gut a tC", as it should prove very helpful to you.

I think with basic knowledge of how electronics and wiring works and a good amount of elbow grease it shouldnt be too hard. Having a friend or family member that knows how is always helpful too.

wiring a new HU is pretty easy. Be sure to get a harness. I got a toyota harness from VIP. It pretty much tells you what wires connect to what on the actuall wire itself. But also check in a manual on the actual wiring from the car itself. Pretty easy. Took me a few hours, but a few weeks to find a code to cheat my HU to playing DVDs on the go.

Let me get this straight. There is a code to allow you to bypass the emergency brake safety feature? I thought there would be a way to bypass this electrically. I haven't looked at the wiring diagrams though. How do you find a code?

yeah i did alot of searching only. but i found a code used by the techs for my system to allow it to play without the PB wire. I gounded the wire and had to input the code, cause just grounding it or to a switch didnt help me.

"but dont worry, i dont use the dvd option much, just want to set up a car puter later"
