Default How the heck do I wire up some universal fogs?

Alright, so I bought some standard fog lights, which come with an in line fuse, 2 fogs, and a switch. My question is, how can I hook these fog lights up, so that I can get power from a source which is only hott when the ignition is on? In this way, the lights will automatically turn off with the ignition in the event I forget to flip the switch to off. I'd rather not just have these guys running on a switch, with power straight from the battery cause I know I'd forget to flip the switch and end up draining my battery. So basically, is there some wire which is hot when the ignition is on, which could handle the extra current being pulled by the fogs? Engifineer help me out man, keep in mind also I don't know a heck of a lot of about electrical stuff, I've just wired some basic things, and hooked up my d3. Thanks for the help guys.

Tap into the fuse box under the dash, use and add-a-fuse on one of the spots that are only hot when the ignition is in the on position. Your lighter fuse would work.

there is a connector down there already for the OEM fog option.
you can use the wires from that.

Driver side, near where the cold air intake piping would go.

So once I find this connector, what do I do, splice in my power and ground from the fogs? I want these lights to come on w the parking brake lights, and be switched basically. If I tap into the fuse box with add-a-fuse taps, wouldnt that draw massive current from whatever fuse I use? If I use lighter fuse wouldnt I start a fire or something? Or do I just use that fuse to somehow turn on the fog lights, then the fog lights receive power from the battery? God electrical stuff is confusing.

christ, no one ever helps with this kinda stuff even though I know there are tons of guys who easily know the answers and could explain it in detail. I dont see why the only instructive posts are about the same rehashed things over and over. How to tint tail lights and pictures of stock tc's are getting to be all this forum is about. Hasnt anyone on this entire forum ever hooked up a pair of non VRD/ebay/OEM fog lights for christs sake?

Yes, they have and it's extremely simple. 1 wire (usually red) goes to power with a switch inline. If you want the fogs to only be able to turn on only when the key is in the ignition then just tap into your fusebox where the cig lighter fuse is with an "add-a-fuse."

Next take the other wire "usually black" and ground it on a piece of bare metal.

There you go, that simple. No you will not draw "massive current" unless you have a short, in which the fuse on the "add-a-fuse" will blow. No you won't start a fire.

Search, i'm sure wiring up 12v accessories has been covered repeatedly, if not for aftermarket fogs, for other types of interior lighting.

If you can't figure this out just get a set of oem fogs or vrd's they are plug and play and will look alot cleaner than any other type of aftermarket fogs.

Well if I really can just draw the power from my cigarette lighter, then thats friggin cake. Didn't know it was that easy....seems like fog lights would pull lots of wattage, theyre 55 w bulbs. I mean with all the craziness about HIDs melting stock wiring harnesses and even just upgraded luminics or silverstar bulbs melting wiring harnesses, just wontonly tapping into the cigarette lighter seems like a real nice quick way to melt down some wiring and destroy my cars electrical system. But I guess I'll have to trust you since no one else gives enough of a flying f*ck to answer lol. Btw I have the viniati m3 front so none of the other fogs will work for me except 3" universal fogs...

Your not tapping into any of the wiring of your cigarette lighter, because yeah fogs probably would fry those little wires. Your tapping into the spot on the fuse block for the cig lighter, there is a difference.
