Default How to Remove A-Pillar with side air bags?

I am trying to install an autometer dual gauge pod but I am having problems removing the A-pillar. I follow the DIY tech write up but for the love of god, I can't take the damn A-pillar off. I tried pulling at different angles without damaging anything and no luck. Does anyone know how to remove the A-pillar with side air bags?

Fitment Note: Cannot be used on tC with Optional Side-Curtain Airbags

See it under the pic \/\/ ?

to remove the a-pillars with the side airbag you must break a one-time use clip that secures the a-pillar on there...

it is that very clip that keeps your a-pillar popping off and flying at you when the side curtain airbags go off.

if you break it.. you will need to replace it.

and though it's possible to install your pod.... you risk hurting yourself when those airbags go off.

/\/\ contact summit! Tell them they did not display a disclaimer and that you cannot use this on your vehicle for saftey reasons. I have a good buddy that does alot with his Blazer through Summit and he's always said they're good guys. I don't think you'd have a problem contacting them.

No picture? Fail!

I'm trying to figure out pod options for my install too, as I also have the side curtain airbags. The Creative Compacts pod fits over the a-pillar and screws in. Anyone know if this is workable?

As someone with the SRS, I can vouch for the fact that you can pull every direction as hard as you want and that thing isn't going to come off until you just snap it. The non-SRS cars must have a different setup. Unlike that other thread, it does NOT come off. I wouldn't use it even if you could. I didn't get the SRS so I could get podded in case of a crash. Sorry man.

if you get into a crash the pod will not come off. SRS bags do not move the pillar.

^^ are you willing to risk taking that chance?

and no.. you CANNOT reuse that clip.

the non-srs cars just have a regular normal clip in that place.

nope.. just pull until the clip breaks.

you can also try to use a small long screwdriver to help break that clip

I just took mine off. you dont need to break anything!!! If you pull down from the top really hard, seriously hard. (I'm 6'2" 300lbs) i got mine to come off no problem. Now i just need to go buy some gauges for my new pod!

You can reuse the clip, I did it yesterday, there are several kinds though, the A pillars use a small blue clip, the B pillars use a standard teal clip, and the doors, panels, hatch panel and C pillars use the standard white clip. The airbag clips, which are the bolts on the srs pillar that connects into a white hole clip for the a pillar, and a black one for the c pillars, can also be reused.

Now stuff does break, sometimes you don't get them in right and you end up smashing them, but its a cheap and easy fix.

So the are reusable, its just sometime they get broken....

And yes, I have SRS, with Suede

Here are some pics of these clips:
