hvac 07 problem/ dealer problems
i finally went to the dealer today, they checked my baby out and sed they ordered a part so i will go back on monday for them to fix it, but i was looking while they were checking and wen the guy was done he was trying to pull my car out and there was a bmw parked he got out and sed "i dont want to hit such a nice car with this thing", that made me feel soo bad. How are you going to praise a bmw at a toyota/scion dealership

Just make sure to report this issue to scion customer care. This is becoming a widespread thing it seems, so they need this info so they can create a tsb (or recall if needed).

Most of them drive *hit cars and are jealous - especially if you're young.
Guess what's parked in the middle of the showroom at Toyota of Dartmouth where I bought my tC? A late '90's convertible 3-series... If you have to display used German cars to get people into the dealership, why are they bothering selling Toyotas anyway? It seems the same all over though... There's a whole range of import cars in front of a Dodge dealership on the way to work, and an uber-expensive BMW sitting in front of a Volvo dealership. The only one that doesn't seem to pretend (or need to!) is the new Ferrari dealership out here. The guy (probably younger than I am) that I bought mine from was supposedly buying a G35 for his personal car...
Beamers are highly over-rated cars quality wise. I know more than a few 01's, 02's with saggy doors, rattles, running problems, etc. And these are taken in everytime the dealer reminds them to. Nothing but back and forth to work cars. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a luxury car, I would buy a lex over a beamer any day of the week.

I was looking at buying a $35k car for the misses, we looked at dozens of models new and used, I test drove just as many, every lexus in the lineup and every beemer under a 7 series I could find. IS300, IS250, IS350, older SC430, and those are just the lexies.
nothing gave me a bigger grin than a 2004 BMW M3. I found out they're the same exact car since 2000 and you get get an older one for low-to-mid 20's, or high 20's for a low mileage, newer model. One that's only a few years old with low miles and great condition can be had for low 30's which is normally a $65k car.
BMW's are over-expensive, there's no denying that, but you also have to think that you get 3 years of free maintenance on the new car with loaner-beemers.
Not to mention up until the IS250/350 there has NEVER been a dedicated chassis for a lexus since the SC430, whereas every BMW E-series is redesigned from the ground up to meet what they need, not like the Lexus IS300 being a $35,000 Toyota.
If you're going to buy a more expensive car, BUY a more expensive car, not a glorified base-model chassis they tack $20,000 worth of parts on and call it a new car (like the Acura TL being a civic chassis)
BTW, to stay on topic, I would've punched the dude in the face, or at the least, ripped him out of my car and moved it myself.
The M3 Beamer is probably the exception in my book. While I wont speak to over all reliability, since I dont know enough about them in this area, they are nice cars and perform well. The 3 series, IMO isnt worth the money at all.
Yeah.. but good conversation nonetheless
There are a few things though that tend to skew the statistics with cars like those.
1) People who own beamers typically take them in for maintenance more religiously due to the included maintenance and the fact that most of the time they have the money to do so. They also recieve reminders via mail.
2) First owners tend to keep them a shorter amount of time and trade in or sell them. Second owners, especially once waranty is out, spend less time at dealers for service, so all problems are not necesarilly reported.
3) Due to price, they are typically owned by older drivers, so they are not as often subjected to abuse
I read a paper by a statistician who pretty much tore apart consumer reports because of obvious bias and their sampling process, which is far from statistically valid. Part of this paper went through the points I just made and more regarding more expensive cars, which many times receive higher quality ratings than they deserve relative to other, more cheaper cars.
