I changed the hvac unit LEDs on my 07 tc, but now the unit won't light up when I turn my lights on. The display lights up when the car is on and the lights off, but when i turn he lights on, it goes dark. The buttons also don't light up, but the hazards, seatbelt, airbag, defroster indicators and ac/air circulation indicator LEDs do work.

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?? I checked the leds and they all work. I havent installed the resistors to make the LEDs brighter yet cause I need to fix this problem first. Thanks in advance for the help.

So when you turn the lights on, it goes out? If that's the case, check your wiring, sounds like you switched something.

make sure you have a GOOD connection between the led and the circuit board, sometimes the sodder doesn't make the contacts touch.

also check to see if your dimmer switch isn't off

I tried to help one of the guys but the only thing I could really get at was to go to the dealer, you might PM one of them though and see if they got it fixed.

make sure the dimmer on the gauge cluster isnt set to off.

I hope the answer is as simple as that... then again, it does make sense that that could be the problem, Occam's Razor... the simplest answer is usually the best

Also, are the guages on and the HVAC off, or are they both off?

The dimmer switch is on and the gauges light up fine, i actually mod'd those also blue and white leds. I'm guess it has to do with the button leds cause everything else works. The screen leds work when the lights are off, but turns off when i switch the lights on.

well, from what you are describing the root of the problem is much deeper.

You said you havent done the resistor mod yet, so no cut traces; the only thing is the led swap. The guages work all the time, but the HVAC goes off when you turn from parking lights to on.

It sounds like what the other two people I posted links to were having, I tried to help one through the problem, but even at that, I think you are going to have to have someone at a dealership look at it. If they try and tell you its your led's... well.. its not.

Try asking either of the guys in the two other topics if they got it fixed or not. Mabye they have some answers as to what is going on.
