Default I have an idea...need responses((edited))

Ok so today i installed a push button engine start switch for my car, but I still have to put the key to the "ON" position and then push the button. So i was thinking of getting a copy of my key then cutting the head off and putting it in the key hole and turn it to the ON position and leave it like that the whole time. I thought this through though, i am also going to put a power kill switch to the origional ignition switch so unless the switch is on the car wont detect the key but i still have power to lock and unlock the car with the remote so the car won't drain of power. So your probably thinking anyone could steel it now but i remebered the car has an immobilizer system so unless my origional key with the chip is in my pocket the car won't start....

What do you all think? Should i do it or not?

if your thinking why waist money and do this it's just because i want to have it be different and i like doing custom things

Sorry to burst your bubble.... but you need the key in the ignition with the chip to start the car, the car will not start with the key in your pocket!!! It is not a Smart Key like the new Toyota's and Nissan's!

This is a dumb and foolish idea. If you are going to do it please get an alarm.

sorry to prove you wrong. But i just took the actual key out of the key head with the chip. Like you said with the key in my pocket the engine would not start. But. But when i put the key 1 inch away from the ignition switch the car did start so no it does not have to be in the ignition switch just 1 inch near it. So i think i might do it but i will take your advice about an alarm.

lol too late. i went out and bought the switch and wire and since the switch powers off only the key ignition switch power the car doors still lock and unlock because the car still has power availiable like normal. when u flip the power switch all the instrument lights go on but if you don't put the chip from the origional key 1 inch away from the ignition switch the car won't start so no the car cannot be started without disabling the immoilizer first which is great because its harder to steal. once the immobilizer is disabled you can move the chip away from the ignition but when you turn off the car((which is done by turning off the switch i installed )) the immobilizer is enabled. so in turn the whole plan worked out great. i will post pics and maybe a video tomorrow to show you all how it works.

p.s. not lazy just cool

no the car wont start if u just flip the switch and push the button. first you flip the switch to give the ignition switch power then you hold your old key head ((where the chip for the immobilizer is)) up around 1 inch away from the origional ignition switch for 2 secondsto disable the immobilizer then you push the button to start the car. If you dont disable the immobilizer the car wont start.

cool, but since you have to hold the key there for two seconds why not just insert the key and start the car?? if you didnt have to hold it there it would be tight! maybe you should tape the seconf key they gave you behind the plastic near the ignition.. but that wouldnt work for locking the car, never mind cool but impractical!

F'ing stupid... your basically doing away with the factory security system... i thought the whole push button thing was ___ too.... what i would do if anything... is get a r/s bypass... put that on a switch and then have your button... that would be a little cleaner in my opinion... but to me... this whole thread is a problem waiting to happen...

The metal part of the key needs to be touching the inside of the key fob. I cracked the casing on one of my keys and when I went to start the car, the plastic fob part broke off leaving nothing but the metal shaft inside the ignition. The car still started but it wouldn't idle. I even tried to start it again with a pair of pliers, just to turn it, and it started but died. Like everyone else is saying, this is just a bad idea, you're basically asking for your car to get stolen.
