install problem
earlier today my friend tried to install my amp together, but he put the wire connected to the battery where you are supposed to put the ground wire and the ground wire where you are supposed to put the battery wire while the car was on. and now my head unit wont turn on. could you help me out and tell me whats wrong and how could i fix it.
def check your fuses and your connections. but i dont see why that would affect your deck too if its just your amp. and dont forget depending what deck you have, there might be an inline fuse on it as well.
Most amplifiers don't provide protection for this "installation error". I'll bet your amplifier's toast. Check the fuse on the amplifier, and if it IS blown, replace it, but watch for the fuse to blow immediately. If this occurs, DO NOT add a larger fuse, and try again...the amplifier's power supply is fried, and the amplifier will need to be repaired/replaced.
check your connections on the back, something could be loose. and check the fuses under the steering wheel to make sure that you didnt blow the one with the stereo. but other than that, i dont see why your amp would affect it.
As an answer to your question, check your fuses in your car. There should be a panel that has a diagram of which fuse to check. It will say acc or radio or something to that effect. If you dont know which one to check, check them all, it wont hurt. If you find a burnt fuse be sure to replace it with the SAME AMP fuse never a bigger one!
Second as somebody did mention, check your fuse in the back of your stereo. You may have one you may not, but most newer stereos do come fused in the back.
If all the fuses check out, then check out the wires in the back of the stereo. It could be possible since you switched polarity that a non fused wire became fried. First look back behind the stereo then as weird as it sounds smell back there. If its a fired wire the nasty smell will linger for a long time.
If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me or pm me.
