Does anyone know if the mileage is held by the ECU or on the instrument panel? I wanna trade in my car but buy a instrument panel with lower mileage and was woundering if this would work?

Yes it would work but mileage fraud will come back to bite you hard bro. I would watch out especially if you're trading it in to a dealer. They check that kind of thing you know...

you can swap for a low mileage motor pretty cheap if you know how to do that kind of thing and then use that odometer properly since that's how many miles are on the motor. you still have to inform them of the mileage on the chassis though.

Dont forget, everytime your car gets inspected the mileage is sent to the DMV. If you go to trade in the car and it reads a lower mileage then the last time the DMV read the mileage, you are up the creak without a paddle.

Really not a good idea. How would you feel if you spent thousands of dollars on a car, and maybe or maybe not you find out that the person who previously owned it screwed with the mileage, costing you a lot of money. not cool.

The VIN is on every instrument cluster also (I think). I'm pretty sure he has learned what is right and wrong by now though.
