I wanted to tap into a 12volt source that comes on with the Ignition for my valentine 1 install. Can anyone steer me i nthe direction of where I can plug the fuse in or what wire i can vampire tap? I took of the cover and I am clueless. Thanks for the help itsm uch appreciated

 

I didn't test any of the wires at the fuse panel for 12v when the key is at "On" but if you take off the lower steering column cover you'll see wires going to the ignition(8P white connector). The yellow one is 12v when the key is in the "On" position. If I remember correctly it had in tiny little letters IG1. Test it again to make sure though! I don't want to be wrong and then something bad happens to your stuff.

after taking of the lower steering column cover, 2 screws, I found the clip that went to the ignition and it had on the clip IGN labeled with a wire coming out, I tapped it and it worked! thanks

 

Yea, watch out for that...It really hurts, and it's a pain to get it put back in and repressurized...

 

this was a bad choice - i dont know what a "valentine kit" is - but I wouldnt tap into the "ignition" fuse. There are plenty of other fuses that turn on with the ignition. Maybe the radio fuse could have worked for you - i dont know what else - i'd have to think about it. but i wouldnt want to blow my ignition fuse.

 

actually i just found out 'valentine' is a radar detector - so you can definitly wire to the radio fuse

 

Can i just hardwire the valentine one like how the auto dimming rearview mirror is to be wired? im looking at the instruction manual right off the trdsparks.com website, and i have no idea what i should do with the v1? help!

Yes, i looked at this one already, i don't like the idea of hard wiring to the sunroof, which might blow the sunroof fuse. I think the the side panel fuse box by the driver side has more than plenty of power sources, but i just don't know how. anyone?

 

I'd much rather blow my fuse than hardwire it to a non-fused source and blow up my $250 radar detector.

I think the sunroof option is a good idea, the valentine can't draw that much current, and if, for some reason it shorts, blowing a fuse for your sunroof isn't the end of the world. Grab a spare and toss it in your glove box incase it rains.

I wanted to get a 12V source to a switch that controls the interior LEDs but couldn't find anything (or didn't know how). Since the switch is right there, it'll be easier to connect to that fuse box on the driver size. The switch and the fuse box is only a couple inches away.

I ended up running a wire from the cig. lighter all the way to the switch, then run it back all the way to the cup holder LED, pretty stupid if you ask me but couldn't figure out another way.

So which wire can we tap in to get 12V (I dont need a lot of current for the LEDs). Pictures would really help. Thanks

 

I found the best way to automate LEDs with the dome light - which is a cool option...
