I just called my dealership to try and arrange for the ipod upgrade stereo. they are telling me that it will cost $500 when it says $250 on the scion site. My Dealership is trying to tell me that I have to pay $500 because I didnt get it with my car at the time of purchase. This does not make sense to me because with the trd exhaust it is $525. I am pretty sure if i was to upgrade now it would still be $525.

has anyone else had the same experience are there any other options i should go with instead?

$500 ONLY makes sense if that is the price of the unit + installation.


If you just want the unit it is $260. Call them up. If they tell you again that it is $500 (NOT INCLUDING INSTALLATION) call another Scion dealer.

 

even that type of an install price seems a little high. i am hoping someone else can suggest something that will work. tomorrow i am going to try a couple other dealerships because it just doesnt seem right.

 

Well, think about this. If you buy a new car, and the stereo in the car is NOT the iPod unit, they take it out and put in the new stereo. The "old" one is still new, and gets reused. You're really paying for the difference between the two units.
If you have a SCION, and want the stereo, your car and stereo are used. They can't sell your old stereo as new, if at all. So, you buy the whole new unit.

Makes sense to me. But have a look on ebay - I've seen them going for ~$450.

then why would it cost me the same price for the exhaust? or even better why would the price for tires still be $1500?

that's what the 18" tire upgrade is listed at. i am sure that if i wanted that same tire package right now it would still be the same price.

 

well, for anyone trying to buy the 06 ipod head unit, the price is around $450/$500 depending on which dealership you buy it from. they sell for that much on ebay too ... but every once in a blue moon you'll see one listed on ebay for just $300.

it's only $260 if you got it as an upgrade when you first bought the car.

pure scion pricing and dealer pricing can be and are most often are different!

pure price is not one price...

 

my dealer will put on any accessores after purchase for the same price as getting it when ordering the car (or so they say, i've never actually had anything put on)

My dealer told me flat-out that anything would be more after I drove it off the lot.
My neighbor went and bout a FM tC the next day at another dealer and they wanted to charge her to put the freakin' bra on the car! I told her to call the sales manager and tell them what a crock of sh!te that was - spend 21k on a car and get charged to put a bra on???

well that's what my salesman told me when i purchased my car or i would have just purchased the unit at the same time. i should probably tell the salesman so he doesnt tell other people the same thing.
i just got a pioneer unit for xmas it has the ipod stuff and all so i am getting it installed on thursday at best buy. i am hoping the can work the connection into the center console unit or some other well concealed place.
