Default Issue/Problem with Elemental Designs SQ10.

I have a slight issue with my SQ10, it seems to rattle (the woofer itself) when its warm out or inside my car. usually when its usually above 70 degrees, i have in the stealth box. nothing is on top of it causing it, and its at every volume level and is very annoying. it sounds like its the center piece (with the logo) on it is hitting something.

Is there anything i can do to fix it?

Thanx,
Dave

Adjust your gain on your amp. Tune the amp if you havent. IF you tuned it wrong the sub can cause this noise that sounds like rattle coming from the box.

my gain is at 0, everything is flat, and it does it, i had my amp and headunit tuned correctly for this sub, snd it does it at low volumes too, when the sub is barely moving.

Ok now I am confused.........how can amp be tuned with it at 0.......the gain is waht give the sub the proper amount of power to operate.

Take the wattage you want to the sub and multiply that by the ohms and then take the sq root of that and that is the AC voltage you need

for instance with the SQ10 you need 350w x 4 ohm = 1400 and the sq of that is 37.41 AC v.

Put in a 0 dB 80 htz tone disk

With all your EQ settings on the deck at flat or 0 play the tone and turn volume up to a audiable level say 30%

goto amp and the **** that says crossover turn it all the way down and then turn it up as the tone plays, when it gets loudest and then starts to fade back out you are at around 80hz so turn it back to where it plays loudest.

NOW the amp is ready to be tuned........

Turn deck volume up to 80% of max volume

Play tone and using a Digital multi meter put the leads on the + and- of the sub posts on the amp(where you hook the sub wires to,do this with the sub hooked up as the amp has to have a load.

turn up the gain while the tone is playing to 37.41

You now have a perfectly tuned sub to amp.........no risk of distortion,no risk of blowing it up.

Check your box for airleaks, sealed boxes with leaks can effect the subs.

Never use bass boost,it is not for playing daily and will just hammer your sub in a short time....and it distorts it badly.

Never turn volume past the 80% as it will distort and damage sub.

Never give sub more watts from amp than it can take,if you tune the SQ right it will take 350w,if you do not tune it I would not suggest giving it that much.....it will blow the coil.

Now on the deck you need to set the EQ settings, never use the LOUD,as it will jsut distort, never use the preset settings like theater,rock,hiphop,classic......they do not work well ever and distort.

If you have an eq use it to tone the sound to your car,and to your tastes.

Hope this helps.........

take sub out and look it over to be sure it does not have a loose cover or something hitting, push down on it out of box to see if the coil makes noise or moves smoothly.

A under driven sub,one that had the gain not used properly can also make noise.did you have the gain up at one point and turn back down to 0
