Default JL Amp

Ok this is a stupid question but I was thinking of changing out my stock amp. My boss gave me today a JL amp that's 300/4ch for free. I know nothing about audio setups. So it's good to educate now. Is it a good idea to swap out the amp in my 08 tC for this one in use for the JL. My speakers are all stock and yes I know about the whole too much power for the stock speaker thing. Perhaps that just depends on the power of the amp and how much wattage per channel. SO in short should I just keep the old one on or is it ok to change over to the new amp?

should work just fine as long as you keep the gains down.

it all depends on a bunch off stuff!!!!
1. do you have a aftermarket deck with front and rear rca outputs? if not then you need a 4 ch lineoutput converter to keep the factory deck.
2. the factory speakers can only handle about 10 rms watts max! that amp will have to be turned way down, and yes youll be able to blow your factory speakers with that amp.
3. how much are you willing to drop on the install, you need the correct gauge wire kit 4 awg or 8 awg complete kit with power wire, fuse, remote wire, ground, and rca's. the you need speed wire, and another rca cable if the kit doesnt come with two. the price for all that is right around $120 just in wireing, no line output converter, or labor for install.
3. you wouldnt be swaping out a factory amp cause their isnt one.
the best way to do it is install a new deck with a new harness to the speed wire.. for a nice clean install!!!

thanks for the input guys...actually on my 08 there is a amp. its a small amp with a small output. i dont know whats the wattage on it but obviously enough to power all the speakers. no i dont have an aftermarket unit yet...i have the stock as i cant afford the one i want yet....lots of priorities before that.

the power comes from the stock head unit and the factory sub is self powered and gets the signal from the front speakers. unless the premium ones do but i havent seen one yet. i also own a 08. but i would hold out till you got a aftermarket deck to do this it would be a waste of time and money to hook it up using a line output converter.

^Wrong! Amp will improve SQ greatly over HU power.
