Its too bad that both sides passenger and driver side couldn't be done. I'm always a fan of symmetry.

Dual 10w6v2s with an OEM JL boxes would have been nice. Guess I'll have to go the fiberglass route... or would I?

Also, does the panel need to be cut in order to meet depth requirements and/or volume requirements?

I think he wants to know what consumers would buy out of the choices he gave. He posted a few choices JL is considering and every other post is people wanting somthing else. It's like if you asked a question on which car is better between a Civic, Mazda3, RSX, or Tc, and everyones answering with WRX, or Evo.

So anyway, here's my opinions.

A 10W1v2 enclosure would not require cutting. The question is would anyone buy it?
I don't know about others, but no I would not buy it. I've had the original 12W6s a long time now, and stepping down to a W1 is not an option.

A 10W3v2 and the 10Wv6 are on the table but would require cutting to get the extra depth. All the possibilites would look the same from the outside and take the same trunkspace. The question has come down to would people pay the extra for the 10W6v2? So far, it does not seem like it
W3v2 or W3v3? Anyway, this would be much better, but for the price, I don't think it would sell. You said a stealthbox with a 10w6 would be about $750-$800. A single 10W6v2 runs about $300. A thinking man would rather buy two 10W6v2 woofers, and spend the extra money on a box that can show off the subs. Anyone who buys a W6 knows he wants big bass. And that same person more then likely want to show it off and not hide it. Stealthboxes for W6s is not an option at all, IMO. Especially for the price.

So, I think the only option is the 10W3v3 if you can get a better price for it. On the question of whether poeple would cut up their Scion for it, I can't say for everyone else, but I would to get the bass of a W3 and have it hidden.

If I were to buy a stealthbox, and let me say its about time you boys at JL jumped on the tC bandwagon, it'd definitely be a 10w6v2. People like me are out there who both want a) as much bump as possible and b) want the post space afforded for this.

I feel you'll no doubt find people willing to cut and slice their interior so they can mount back in the hatch area.

so, to recap:

10w6v2, rear passenger side, yes to cutting.

If only you'd started this 6 months ago
I'm happy with my 12w3v2 anyway

Ok. Based upon all the feedback I received from the forums I posted this (mostly scionlife) this is what I can conclude.
Cutting the panel is OK if it means getting a higher displacement driver with everyone who has responded.
The Stealthbox should go on the passenger side.
There is a split as far as the driver that should be loaded. About half feel the W3v3 would offer all the performance they need for the price. The rest said that they would pony up the extra cash to squeeze all the performance they can get out of the area the W6v2.
Interestingly, many people who said W6v2 already have systems in their cars and would probably not buy the Stealthbox anyway.
I personally think that the W3v3 is the ticket from a performance/price point. I have a W3v3 in my car now and it kicks ___. If it were my decision, I would go with the W6v2, but I am not paying either way so I am not a good example.

So one simple and final question:

W3v3 or would you spend the extra $150 to extract the extra performance the W6v2 would offer? Your input is appreciated, we start work this week.

In all honesty, I'd probably pester you to sell JUST the stealthbox for a w6v2, and find me a nib/slightly used speaker on eBay for way cheaper than retail. But thats just me being as frugal as possib le ;)

If I were dropping that kinda loot on this setup, however, another $150 is just a drop in the bucket.

Shipping the Stealthbox empty is not an option.

Which kind of sucks. The first time someone makes a decent enclosure that fits OEM-style without forcing me to use one type of driver and hits a decent price point is the first enclosure I buy.

If it involves cutting of panels, I wouldnt buy it. Id rather cut the carpet and have an enclosure that replaces the foam tray on the passenger side.

If it's going to have the JL Audio name on it, it must be the best product we can ship. A big part of the Stealthbox development is creating the best driver/enclosure combination that matches the sonic signature of the vehicle that it was designed for. If the box was empty, it's just a generic vehicle-specific enclosure. The performance would then shift depending upon what driver you place into it.
JL Audio is in the Great Audio business, not the generic box business.
If you're looking for an empty generic box, there are plenty of companies out there who would be glad to supply you.

Thank you all for your feedback, I do have some updates for you:

The Streathbox will be loaded with a W3v3

Forget all the stuff I said, the Stealthbox has gone a completely different direction. The end result will require NO modification to the vehicle and be completely invisible. The installation will be reversible with no evidence that it was ever installed.

The two pieces (top and bottom) were test-fitted yesterday. All went well so the plug can now be made. I believe they are working on it today. We had a short week (Mon and Tues off) and production does not work Fridays so I expect the plug to be done next week.

Once the plug is done, they will make the mold and then they can make the first test enclosure. The enclosure will be evaluated sonically and mdifications made. Basically, several enclosures will be made until we get the sonic result we are looking for (if needed).

When the Stealthbox gets approved it goes to production. Production may make modifications if needed to make production molds. If modifications are needed, the first enclosure made by production will be tested again to make sure that it did not impact the sonic signature of the package that was intilally approved.

If there is a green light, we then generate installation instructions and get the photography done. The whole process can take as much as 3 to 6 months. I have a good feeling that this Stealthbox will break records for going to concept to production for some reason

JLTD,

Just for your reference... I have a lightweight JL 8" Microsub in my TC that hits very very well. I use it as my every day sub,... I have a custom box with 3 10's in it for when there is a show or whatever. You don't need a huge 10" sub and box in a car with such a small volume of air inside it, esp not a hatchback... unless of course the bass is intended for the people outside the car.

Reason's I like my microsub - Hit's good... the 8w0 is a great sub. Cheap. Light Weight. Removable in less then a minute. Doesn't slow down my car or upset the handling.
