its not a police detector , it will only detect radar and etc if the police is using it.

how much did you pay for it?

yeah dood, you can pass 20 cops in one day and unless they have they're radar on (why they would while driving is beyond me) your v1 isn't going to go off. Also you need to know that even when they're parked on the side of the road as a speed trap, they might be using laser or a radar gun which the detector will only detect if he's got the trigger pulled. Also just cause you have it, doesn't mean you can race around and not get pulled over. Give it some time and train yourself to use it.

They can suspend your license if you get a ticket under 18. Depends on the laws really when it comes to the amount of tickets you get before you get your license taken. Dont know about other places but in IL they take your license if you get a speeding ticket. No matter what age. You get it back when you either pay, go to school, or go to court.

That doesn't mean you can't drive. You're just driving on the ticket. If you get pulled over, show them the ticket you got.

It DOES however, mean you can't rent a car as they (car rental companies) require a valid driver's license. If you need to get into some place they check ID, just get a photo ID made at a driver's facility.

Also, if you really need your license back, you can just go to a driver's facility, tell them you need a replacement and for $10 they'll make you a new one.

If you are under 18 you can get your license completely suspended if you get around 4 - 5 speeding tickets within a certain period of time. Depending on the severity they may hold your license until 18 or up to 21

If you get 4-5 speeding tickets within the 2 years between your 16th and 18th B-day, IL state police are doing the rest of us a favor by taking your DL away.

DING DING DING.

Radar detectors are not a license to speed. . . you still have to use your brain when you drive. Radar detectors are effective for detecting speed traps and areas where cops are patrolling for speeders. Not only that, many cops choose to do a form of speed measurement called pacing. . . which is undetectable, except by being visually dilligent.

FYI, most cops don't spend all day looking for speeders.

Also, LIDAR is becomming more and more prevalent. I myself am looking into LIDAR countermeasures.

None of that makes any difference on what I said. You could have it mounted to a fifty foot pole, it would make no difference.

. . . And check Valentine1's website. . . HIGH is the optimal mounting position

There's no such thing as high enough. . . you can mount it where ever you want. But if you're going to spend that much for a high end detector, you might as well get the most out of it.

But again, if the cops aren't using their radar, you WILL NOT detect them.

The Valentine One works best when mounted high in the windshield

I also have a Valentine 1. I can't tell you how many times it's saved my ___. The only down side is the cops who shoot laser. No matter what detector you have, once it picks up laser it's already too late and the cop has your speed read. Just keep your eyes open and don't fly around blind corners at 100 mph. Laser and radar both need direct line of sight, but radar is much more likely to bounce around off other cars and be picked up by your detector. That's another reason why you should not drive fast when you're the only one around for a few hundred feet.

I couldn't go back to any other detector after having the arrows that the Valentine 1 has. It makes it so much easier to figure out if you should keep the gas pushed down or slam the on the brakes.

You have to mount the detector as high as possible for the best radar detection. Lower is better for picking up laser, but you'll never have time to slow down anyway so just mount it high and it will give you the most benefit. I have mine mounted just to the left of the rear view mirror and it is perfect. Put it on the window with the bottom lined right up with the bottom of the mirror. Positioned like this you will be able to flip your visor down and still see the display, as well as having a clear view out of the rear window.

The V1 also is great because you can use plain old phone lines for the power cable. I bought a 10 foot black flat phone line and pushed it into the a-pillar and ran it totally concealed down by the door, up behind the steering wheel, and out into the cig lighter. Eventually when it is warmer out I will wire in a splitter and have it hardwired under the center console and there will be no cable visible at all.

Let me know if you want me to post pics. Maybe I can brave the sub-zero Buffalo temperatures long enough to snap some quality examples of what i just explained.

Have fun and be safe! Don't forget, it's not a licence to speed like an idiot, you have to learn how to use a radar detector properly. Otherwise it's just an expensive grocery store detector.
