Default led wiring help, please

i'm installing a set of new elemental design speakers into the front doors, and while i'm at it i want to install several leds inside those little cubby slots/map pockets in the lower part of the doors. i'll be running a separate switch to a switch plate next to my fog lights switch.

i'd like to know the easiest place to tap into 12v(+) and ground(-). i downloaded the elec man., but it's not really written in a language i can comprehend.

props to anyone who can help.

The easiest way is probably just to run a pos. and neg. through the fire wall to wire it. It may not be that easy but it will save you from having to tap into anything and you can run anything else to it in the future!!! I am running 6 leds and 4 led stips right nwo to the one wire with no prob. at all

thanks.
that may be what i will do if i don't get a better suggestion. i already have a 12v wire running into the cabin for my amps/subs, so it wouldn't be to diff to run a another smaller wire from the battery.

curious: what gauge wire did you run for the leds??

i used the firewall for my interior light setup as well.. you won't need thick gauge at all for such a small application, i used 16 gauge for my cathodes and leds

running through the firewall is much harder than finding a 12v source and using a wire tap. There are tons of 12v sources. easiest to find with out testing is the cig lighter.
Or use an add a circuit on the fuse panel. Either get a voltmeter and test for a positive, or get a light tester (cheap) and test a few wires. Buy the crimp line taps and your good to go!!!

I had a question, so I run the power and ground wire to the switch. Do I need to run any other wires to the switch. I'm only connecting a 9.5' led stripe to my engine bay. Help, on connecting to switch.

You only need to connect a ground wire to the switch if the switch has an LED on it. If it has the LED, then you just need to run the power wire from the LED strip (if from Oznium it's the gold wire) to the switch. If the switch does not have an LED, then unhook the negative wire and just hook the power from the LED strip. Either way, make sure to ground the negative wire on the LED strip. Then you should be all set!!

Here ya go. This is a simple diagram i made that should help you out with the LEDs. You can use as many LEDs as you want. You should get the idea. If you need more help, PM me and ill send you my DIY.
