Default license plate LED flickers out

I put LEDs in the license plate lights almost a year ago and since then, the left side started flickering so I swapped it with one of my map light LEDs and now the replacement is completely out. The right side as well as all my other LEDs have been fine. I haven't tested the one thats currently out in another socket yet. Could I have a problem with my wiring? I wear clean gloves when I handle the LEDs and only touch the base.

probably just a problem with the connection at that one bulb. maybe everytime you changed bulbs, the connector got worse and worse so now it went from flickering to out. did you plug the flickering led back into something else to see if it was working properly in another socket?

I think that's the sign that the LEDs are about to die out.

Like draxcaliber said, it's probably the connection. What you need is some Di-Electric Grease.

I had the same problem with the parking lights after I switched them out to LEDs. My Driver's side started flickering like you state. A friend of mine told me about the electric grease. It stopped the flickering. Try it out and let us know the outcome.

I had a similar problem a couple months after putting LEDs in. I took it the the dealer for my inspection and they replaced the bulb and a few days later is was happening again. In my case it was the socket that was bad. They replaced the socket and I have been happy since.

it's also getting close to the summer, so it could just be inevitable LED heat failure

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't think the LEDs are bad, I ordered them from superbrightleds. The first one that started flickering, I put in one of my map lights and it flickers about half the time so I figure that was a bad bulb. Two bad bulbs in the same socket on the other hand...

GMF did your dealer charge you anything to replace your socket?

the superbrightled lights arent that great. mine are doing the same thing also. but then again, the ones for the map lights arent really the exact same size as the ones that belong in the license plate lights. i gotta change mine, mine been flickering for a long time, lol.

uhm.. the front dome lights/map lights use the same size bulb as the license plate lights....

are you talking out you're using ones that are not the same?

No. They replaced the socket under warranty and because they had charged me for a new bulb at the inspection they refunded my money for what they had charged me

Yea i agree. Either a poor quality on the bulb or its from overheating.

sounds like you bought white w6led bulbs from superbright. They do fail over time no matter what and superbrightleds will not admit it or do anything about it. They always will insist it is your install or you are running them in headlight housings. That is why I stopped ordering from them over a year ago. They suck nuggets.

I had that problem. 2 died on me, in the same spot though. I bought the polarized ones a while back and they are much better. They still work and they are much brighter and not as blue.

I dont trust their LED bulbs anyways because i've seen 3 scions catch fire due to them. 1 was an install in the headlight housing that caused a fire, and the other 2 were installs on the inside dome lights that caused fires. They seem to have a bad rep. over there at superbrightleds.

Anybody got a recommendation for LEDs to put in your dome, map, and license plate lights?
