Made my own Shift knob

Made my own Shift ****
Well, I got a little ambitious and sat at my computer late one day and started drawing out a design.... Followed it up when I had the spare time, programmed it, setup the CNC lathe and went to town cutting it. It's 347 S.S., haven't weighed it yet. What do you guys think??? I tried to give it a subtle blend back into the shift boot unlike the TWM classic where it leaves a huge step into the cap of the boot.
It tuned out so well, I made a couple extra and sold off a few. The only problem I had with the first one was getting the drill depth right so the **** would bottom out on the shifter leaving almost no gap to the boot cap. I still used a small, thick peice of rubber I cut into a ring to rase the boot up a bit. The 2nd one came out perfect after an adjustment.
Well, there seems to be a problem with my pictures posting but they're available to see on my myspace which is open to anyone. Just click on my link..

I went off of the TWM style ****. I can try to take some better pictures. Might even take the time to do another deisgn that smaller and more of a tear drop shape. It's 2.8" tall and 1 5/8 in diameter at the largest point, so it's really not that big. The TWM stage 2 shift and TWM boot kind of make it look that way. I understand a lot of people just like the smaller ***** though.
If there's enough demand I might consider setting up a machine to run another 10 or so. Would seel them for half the price of the big guys, and they do weigh a little more. Exactly how much they weigh I’ll find out later on today, I’m even a little curious. I don’t use a plastic insert like TWM for the thread, which keeps a lot of material in the bore of the **** making it a little heavier. I can even do the mat finish to match the dash board by nickle blasting it, the hardest finish is still polishing with a buffing wheel.

thats actually really nice

my only complaint with my greddy **** is it doesnt sit flush with the ring. I've thought about trying to fashion something up to fill the gap, but thats way above and beyond anything I could do!
nice job

If you could find a spring, you could probably put that on the bar to push the collar up to meet the bottom of the ****. Would have to be kind of a specific spring though I guess. Talk to Dr Isotope and see if he has any ideas.
He made this for me:
Weighted delrin **** and matching collar.

I have two laying around, just have to drill and tap them. As for making more, I don't when I will. Possibly after I draw but another design and setup a machine that isn't running production.
