Default Megan/CC short shifter

My short shifter has like about .5 inches of just loose play in it , the ball actually is moving around in the plastic in there. It shifts fine and all but this play drives me nuts. Its been like this for awhile, I don't even remember if it was like this when I installed it or what. Anyone else have this problem, is it supposed to have this slack? Do other short shifters have this looseness? Thanks for any help guys, this thing is drivin me nuts.

My shifter has some play in it and its normal. I got Megan shifter and changed the cable and cage bushings! I don't think there is any shifter which has zero play.

seems like a lot of play though, its like sloppy. Shouldn't it just be tight and nice and not like loosely moving around inside the plastic cage thing?
