I am interested in doing this... How long does it take you to do this? I want the car pc to have navigation, video, music, internet... radio is optional... any case that fits in the trunk would work? or does it have to be VoomPC?

will this case work/fit in the trunk? also, for bluetooth phones, do you just connect a bluetooth dongle to the USB and it will automatically use the car speaker for audio?

yes to the bluetooth. although every phone works differnt. if you have a motorola phone, i wouldnt even mess with the BT. read up on www.mp3car.com for the details and youll quickly see why.

Voom will fit under the pass seat BARELY, i did it and have no probs. i posted pics on my thread for you to see.

what year tc do u have? if u have the 06 i think you can connect the laptop through the aux input for the ipod. u just need to get a rca connector from radioshack. basically any radio with aux input can be used to connect ur laptop to ur speakers

Wow ... I want this sooo bad. Pretty much, though I just want it for the touch screen, DVD, music, keep some files on, maybe dowload pics from the digi to.

In other words, I would like to leave the stock stereo in and ADD a car pc to it and to run through it. Technically, I will be gettin an 06 xB, so I could just hoot the pc through the Aux. jack, install a monitor, and add the software right.

I want to be confused about this, but for the most part, it's just a pc with a touch screen and in a car right. I know how PCs work, so it would just be a matter of installing it.

BTW, do they have systems that will run Mac OS???? I've never seen that before. That would be sweet. I wonder how the mac mini would do in that situation? Probably not set up to be stowed away in a car in the heat and stuff.

Thanks for introducing me to this idea... I wish I had the money to do it right now.

yeah,
most of the trouble comes in making the screen fit and installing all the software components.
Power is another thing to worry about. But there are power supplies that take care of the pc starting automatically as well as regulate the power during engine cranks.
If you are thinking about a carpc the best place to do you research is www.mp3car.com. Also try getting a hold of the book carpc hacks by orielly.

Research will be ur best friend if you want good car pc.

I am running it straight from the battery. I also connect the 12v ignition power to the power supply which triggers the pc to start up and shutdown only when the ignition is on

the power supply i am using is called the m2-atx. it has connections for gnd, 12+ and ignition. like i said the 12+ is from the battery, the ignition is just spliced from the radio connection and i grounded the power to the frame.
