i suppose you could 07.. but you have to get the gauges faces which run about 250 ( i think ).. you can change the gauges faces just fine without worrying about the LEDs. it might be easier to use a filter of some sort to get red (or anycolor that could work off the stock amber) that would spare the hassle of swapping the LEDs, but thats for all red and i havent seen it done using a filter but its a possibility. but to simply answer your question, yes you can swap the background gauge face and do the led swap later.

kool thanks, the thing is I have an 07' and i know that there was a recall on the hvac or something like that, and when they go out you have to get the part thats like $500, Can I just go to the dealer and have it replaced even tho I dont have any problems? I have the exteded 7 year warranty on my car..

Just call the dealer and ask. Or, better yet, the Scion Warranty info phone # that's probably on your warranty paperwork. That's probably your best bet, since they can tell you right away if it's covered under warranty or not. The dealer might try to tell you something's not covered that should be, but the warranty people shouldn't give you a hassle.

Good luck!

If there was an actual recall on it, then by law they have to fix it, even if you're not showing symptoms. However, I think the HVAC wouldn't fall under the catagory of recall, since that usually only applies to safety issues, it's probably a Technical Service Bulliten. I don't know what the problem with the '07 HVAC's, but I'm sure you can take it in and say it has an intermittent problem, and just explain the problem in the TSB. Sometimes they will just go ahead and do the TSB even if they can't replicate the problem, just to prevent comebacks.

Not all my LEDs work on my swap! How much would a new hvac unit work to try it again?

engfineer,
you got me wanting to redo my gauges again! those needles are SICK! A DIY soon? And that easy hvac kit that i bought from you still works great! I'm still not sure why the clock LCD is so bright, but it still works. lol.

Oh, does anyone have a spare manual gauge cluster for sale? I was wanting one to scrap some parts and test a few ideas with.

Here is my setup with the d3 now!

Due to the various ways you can do it, and the tedious fab work for hte backlighting, I have not make a writeup for that part yet. The way I do it is a bit tedious, but comes out very nice and reliable, so it is worth it IMO.

I am not sure why your HVAC display is that bright either... I wonder if a couple of the resistors got mixed up? They do come out brighter in the pics (makes taking good pics of the dash setup tough )

I cant remember when you got yours from me now (and am too lazy to look it up), but did you get the older version of the mod (where you cut traces) or the new one, where you replace the power supply IC ?

I got your special edition one that came between the verson one of cutting the traces and version 2 where you replace the IC. It was the one with the pcb board and wires. Two weeks later you came out with the version 2. lol. so the special edition didn't last too long.

Honestly the LCD is brighter then all get out, It makes reversing at night a little difficult, but i've gotten use to it. Nothing the dimmer can't temporarily fix. =D

I totaled my tc all i have left is the gauge cluster and I think I have the stock radio. I changed the gauge and lcd backlight leds to blue and I changed the needle color to a bright redish orange. it was a 2005 with a manual trans. I also changed the backlight leds on the radio lcd. I would like to get $110 for the cluster and $30 for the radio. e-mail me at thumper_1151@hotmail.com if anyone is interested. I will post pictures monday but obviosly because I do not have the car any more It won't be powered up so all you will be able to see is the color I changed the needles to.
