make sure u bought a STEREO plug - not a MONO plug.

i think u can tell by the number of rings on the jack.

That'll also happen with a stereo plug if it's not plugged in properly. Make sure it's fully inserted into both the player and the port in your car.

I'll just quote another post I made elsewhere that just might help...

Second, the MP3 player usually has to be turned waaaay up - it's a line-level input to the head unit.

Third, have you followed the operating instructions for the head unit?

It really should work.

(If you power the MP3 player from the xB instead of its inernal battery and end up with a noisy signal - buzzes, hums, etc. - you may need to put a ground loop isolator between the MP3 player and the head-unit input jack. Many places have 'em, even RadioShack.)

Some cords have a metal base and if the jack has a metal ring, they can cause static when they connect.
It's best to find a cord with a plastic plug if the jack has a metal base that it might contact.
See the above pics - the base of the plug is metal - I've seen these types have trouble on iPods, for example for the reasons I stated.
