hmmm... nice headunit (I would have went with a double din tho) I would have gone with better subs and amps, Im not really a fan of pioneer other than their decks, but thats just my opinion.... overall should sound pretty good tho, alot better than stock...

yes the avic is the only good thing from pioneer, but overall im sure you can do alot better, i went the same idea as you. pioneer deck, speakers (front and rear). but for subs i went with eD.
i didnt go with the Pioneer Avic D3, because it basically has many things i am not really needing, and as for my system set up, i am not looking to compete or anything, just a nice stock upgrade
is it true that having the AVIC-D3, you sacrifice sound clarity, one of the downside compromises to having a navi. or is this a myth..remember i intend to have this running w/ subs and amps in my system also
The 980 vs the D3 is truly and apples vs. oranges comparison. Its unfair to compare the to head to head, it's really up to your lifestyle to pick the deck. The 980 is an awesome deck (I have it), the integrated bluetooth is a feature I can't live without now. The automatic eq is the best way to get the most out of your system, in the shortest amount of time. The 980 is a deck for audiophiles. If you want your system for music, get the 980, you will never regret it. ( I could go on for a while on this topic)
I also played around with a D3 for a while. At first I thought it was an upgrade to the 980, (after all, it costs more)... It really isn't. You give up a ton of audio controls, bluetooth, but gain a few bells and whistles. Sure, you get GPS (DVD rom based (booo)) and DVD playback, (but not both at the same time). You have a deck that is "good/ok" at a lot of things, but not great at one.

I think the DEH-9800BT is an overall better deck (sound quality wise) because of the eq, and other audio features, the d3 just costs more cuz it is a dd, and has nav/dvd, I just got the avic-z2 in the mail and I cant wait to get it installed! ill be sure to post pics asap!
i would have gone with different subs and amps like said above but thats just me.....also you dont really need the rear coaxs, it would sound fine in the car without them.....but you should like it, hope you do
