i would put the amp somewhere else since you are trying to save space! it looks wierd there anyways!

 

What grill are you talking about? I've been looking for grills for my eu 700's. It seems all 6.5 inch grills are too shallow and not enough clearance for how far the 700's stick out.

if you have not already tried this one, i'll see if it fits. if not i would have to recreate my fiberglass enclosure to sunken the sub in a bit more. at least that should do the trick.

 

My console accumulated a lot of scratches and dents, as well as fiberglass resin from the constant removal of the center console. so i decided to fix it and paint it black. it looks much better in person but i just wanted to share the pictures and join the painted interior group.

I also added streetdeck to my arsenal. damn fine software.

I bought all the paint at auto zone. the one i used is the universal black. I did 2 layers of paint on it. plus about 6 layers of clear coat.

 

Yeah i made the kick panels. I am taking a breather right now since i have been working on my ride for the past 2 months straight. When am ready to get back to it and you are still interest, i can make you one.

 

Has anybody done this type of painting and sanded in the process? If so - what grit was used? At what point(s) should sanding be done?

 

the process i used was this. Started with 220 grit, then 400grit. wetsanded with 400, then 600, then 800 and finally 1500grit.
I applied primer, and wetsanded with 1500grit
Painted first layer and wetsanded with 1500grit.
Painted second layer.
Painted with clear coat and wetsanded the bumps with 1500grit.

tiring process to that got the job done for me.

 

yikes - what type of primer should be used? Did you sand in between the clear coats?

I used regular automotive primer. The trick i found is to let it dry off completely. then use 1500grit to wetsand.
My method may seem extreme but it really doesnt take that long to sand especially with the higher grade sandpapers.
I have sanded between clears but on my last few ones i didn't. but if there is a bump on the clear, i will sand it off.

 

For all the sanding you did, it sure looks like alot of orange peel going on there. You should try wet sanding the clear coat flat then buffing back to gloss. If you put 6 coats of clear on you should have plenty of material to sand without worrying about going thru.

 

Yes, those are woofers in there. its the eu-700. thats why the enclosure is way out there.
if you wanted a regular 6.5 speaker, the enclosure could be made much much smaller than that.

 

Yeah, it can be worked on a lil more. I just wanted to get in done so fast at the end, cause being without a heater in the winter is no joke. I'll probably give myself a couple of weeks before tackling it again. In person, most of the peels are not noticeable and its something i can leave it.

yeah, there are areas that a bit bumpy especially around the edges. if you look just above the console door, there are a few.

 

Yeah, pics can be revealing sometimes. I was selling a head unit once and stated the face was in great shape. I took pics to send to the guy and wow, it looked like a cat had a fight with the display. Every little swirl looked like a huge gouge.
