Default Navigation Question

Why are the plug and play navigation units such as the garmin models so expensive? You can buy a pioneer unit for almost the same price except the screen is bigger, plays all your music, bigger screen, and navigation. I don't know why plug and play models are so expense when you can just by an in dash unit that has more features? Any insights? Are the technologies different?

yes. very different.

the non-in-dash is also much more convienent for people and can be easily transferred from car to car.

I have a "love/hate" relationship with my AVIC-D2 unit.... when the bypass is working... I LOVE IT... when it isn't... I HATE IT... i'm about to just install it properly and forget about the bypass

Just got XM today too

Supply and Demand!

Garmin makes a solid product.

You know what you're getting...

The others are just trying to replicate what Garmin does.

I bought a Nuvi 360 on Costco's website for $550. Costco has a very liberal return policy, which really is hard to put a price on. Sure, Amazon and company may have it for slightly cheaper, but if it breaks, yer f'd!

I got the Nüvi 660 for Xmas and it rocks!
I NEVER wanted a GPS, and now, I don't know how I lived without it.
Very cool, and it works so well that it's scary...
