Default Need help from the experts...

I just bought my new Alpine CDA-9855 headunit yesterday. Now I'm looking for an amp and subs (2x 10").

I don't listen to much rap/hip-hop. Mostly rock/hard rock.

Therefore, I'm looking to get 2 10" subs (sealed, not ported) because I want hard hits and clear sound.

I'M NOT WANTING A "LOUD" SYSTEM THAT THE GUY NEXT TO ME CAN HEAR.

I'm not familiar with the different brands, etc. But I do know most of the technical stuff.
What do the experts suggest?

Not really on a budget... considering I just dropped $500 on the HU.

Duals seem cheap to me... considering the price point and the fact that they have to illuminate them to sell them.

He meant the subs are dual voice coils...not the dual brand. I believe the subs he was referring to were made by Elemental Designs.

Call me a n00b... but what (physically) is the difference between SVC and DVC? I'm assuming DVC sounds better. Also, does it affect impedence?

I just noticed the links in mandos' post. Sorry about that. GREAT DYI BTW on gutting the tC! ( I still can't get my grocery hooks to come off though)

With a 68% efficiency, the NINe.2 would probably have to constantly have quite a bit of power on it to sound good, correct?

Also, what is the range on the 11Kv.2? 30-120hz or so?

if your looking for a clean setup thats not overly loud then dont bother buying 2 subs. all you need is one and it will be plenty good enough. i had one 10" JL W3 and it was plenty loud enough as long as your not looking to be floored with SPL.

No more really than any other A/B amp. Looking at a D amp you could get a Nine.1...same ratings but more efficient as it's class D...probably won't notice a difference in the power use.

Regarding output on the 11Kv.2's, we haven't had a chance to run the sealed tests yet. Ran through the subs in a ported box today, hopefully get the sealed done tomorrow.

And thanks for the props on the walk through....the grocery hooks are a pain....you'll need to push the pin in after having them turned 90 degrees while pulling them out...it's evil ;)

The only difference in SVC and DVC is just that, the number of voice coils used......the only advantage/disadvantage is for wiring purposes.....Say you have an amp that runs max power at 1 ohm.....no-one makes a 1 ohm SVC sub but there are plenty of DVC 2 ohm subs....so you get one of these DVC 2 ohm subs and wire it in parallel making a single ohm load.......the sound Q isn't gonna be affected by the number of voice coils.....unless it gets messed up somehow in the wiring...

I have a website that describes how to remove grocery hooks in the tC. Check it out at http://www.brendanmc.com/scion/scion.htm

Here's the most important pic...

I agree one good, sealed 10" sub can do everything you need. You should be able to feed it a ton of power, it will go low enough and be plenty loud.
