NEED HELP! Taking out the factory installed IPOD connector
I'm stuck...
So I'm uninstalling my '07 premium pioneer headunit with ipod connector. The problem is to take out the cabling that goes from your ipod to the headunit, i've gotten the cable that goes into your center console out....but there's another cable that plugs into THAT cable and runs to the back of the headunit. That's where the problem is. That cable is grouped/shielded with the car's MAIN wiring harness....meaning there's a big trunk of wires running behind the hvac/vent areas and this cable run along with it. That means I will have to do one of the following:
1) cut open the shielding/plastic/tape/cable management of the main wiring harness....make a big mess of the wires, extract the cable, and then attempt to re-do the cable management. (note that this seems difficult because its hard to see where the cable EXACTLY runs to....so i'm not sure if it'll just "slide" out or if it runs to random areas)
2) cut off the ends of the connectors/plugs and solder some new wires on there....leaving the old wires stuck in the main wiring harness.
3) leave everyting as-is and somehow find the right kind of connector/plugs and make a new wiring harness completely.
...
(3) does not seem like a viable option for me as i do not have time and don't know where to get those plugs.
I'm leaning towards (2).....anyone have opinions or experience in this matter?
help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

There is someone on ebay that makes and sells this cable for use in the 2005 Scions that are missing these wires.,
I think is listed on ebay as "SC12234"
They also make a cable that plugs into the head unit and connects directlly to the ipod.
This one is listed as "SC12235"

thanks billc, i think this answers my question,
however noone has the "SC12234" part listed, and i think thats the cable that is needed...
perhaps it may be more cost efficient to just make my own using some 18 gauge wire and the connectors stuck in my car...in theory this should work right? stop me if i'm wrong!

what you have to do is start from where you connect your ipod which the cable is being hold right next to the hand brake so take off your shift **** and the frame around it and then take off the cupholders which is all one piece so you won't won't have anything bothering you. unhook the ipod cable and start running to the headunit and that is basically all you have to do. and it should be zip tied with your havc wires. if it is in the same plastic cover as the havc then there is no need to cut any wires cause all you have to do is slice the plastic open and put the wires from the cable without pulling the other cables around it.

sort of......the cable actually runs up and gets put in with the car's main electrical wiring, and then splits off to come down where the hvac sits. Therefore, cutting up the plastic will expose a lot of wires....but the idea is the same.
btw, thanks to all who contributed or pm'ed. for everyone to know, you only have to remove this wire if you're putting the unit into a 2005 model as they do not have one. The 06-07's come with this harness in there.
