Default Need some help with adding a small system

Hey all,

Im a big car nut but havnt put to much time into researching systems. I had a set of 10s in one of my cars but it was to much. I just want a little more bass from the speakers. My last car (Dodge Srt4) had a factory sub in it from kicker and that waws almost enough bass. Saying all this what would you all recommend on getting some more bass in my tc. I would kinda like to keep my stock head unit but if it needs changing then I will I just dont want to loose my steering controls.

Would it be possible to hook up a bass tube or a single sub and amp to my stock HU?

If a factory sub was almost enough bass, you should look into Elemental Designs Eu-700's... they're a 6.5" woofer with 13mm excursion.. 150RMS watt power handling... they only require .3cu.ft. sealed space or you can use a .5 cu. ft. ported box, or use an infinite baffle application... they're only $50 each as well... They play clean and low in a tuned, ported box...

would that work with a stock HU? Or would I have to get a new one?

well, you'll need an amp to power the sub, but it can be added to the factory HU... all you need is a line level converter that will tap the speaker signal and turn it into an RCA so you can run RCA's back to the amp... you'll also have to run a power wire from the battery with a fuse in it, and you'll need to tap an ignition(only powered with the key turn-on) wire for remote turn on... Most shops could wire you up for an amp fairly inexpensively...

Ok so thats just a sub.....I would still need an amp and a box.

Im thinking of trying to find a used sub that Scion sells. Are they worth it at all?

Not particularly worth it... IMO, they sound like poo... they play too high of frequencies and are too expensive..

It's all good.....

As long as the Line Level converter adjustments(if it has them) are set to correspond to the amp adjustments, it should sound just fine... Won't be award winning, but it'll sound a LOT better than the stock Scion subs...

I just ordered 2 of the Eu-700's for my setup. I'm planning on building a custom enclosure that fits in the storage area under the hatch panel on the passenger side. I'll have to cut out a hole in the panel for the speakers to poke through and I'll machine up an aluminum grill /guard on the CNC at work. The space in there is .5cu. ft. which is ideal for a sealed enclosure.

How did you mount yours? ...and... how do they sound? I can't wait to hear mine!

Mine are in a standard slot ported, 30Hz tuned box... they are absolutely mind-boggling for only being 6.5" woofers... they hit just as low musically as my 2 JL 12w3's in the JL H.O. Ported box... obviously they're not as loud, but they can move their fair share of air fo sho'!! I'd expect them to hit between a 130 and 132 in my tC...

I forgot to mention, in my enclosure, they've got a very good musical quality to them... they sound great with any type of music you throw at them... just for example, I listen to everything from 3-6, twista, Crunchy Black, Wycleff, to Slipknot, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Godsmack (acoustic rock sounds REALLY good), Days of the New, Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, to Eric Clapton, Jack Johnson, Peter Frampton, Allman Bros., ummm... pretty much anything but country...and no punk/emo(just saying that makes me want to puke on myself)
